HAPPY TIDBITS

FEBRUARY MEETING MINUTES

Our club was recognized in Western and Eastern Treasure
Magazine, Club News and Views section, for our monthly
finds. The edition was the April 2014 magazine that can
be seen at the club meeting.

Forty Eight guest and members attended our February
13th meeting. Tony Swicer, President of the Palm Beach
Coin Club and Ray Duclos, owner of Rechants Precious
Metals presented a discussion on the ups and downs of
collecting coins and precious metals. Their advice was
“you get what you pay for”; do not buy commemorative
coins from television ads or newspapers they are usually
worthless. “The fancier the package the bigger the ripoff”. Do not sell to street corner advertisers, instead sell
and buy from established companies who have been in
business for a while. They further advised that collecting
coins for an increase in value will take a long time to
mature. As usual, they were very informative and helpful
to the members.
The Treasurer reported $1618.42 in the bank. Gary
McNew was given a Certificate for returning keys to the
rightful owner. And Gary was presented a plat in honor of
his having served as President for the past three years. Ten
members had birthdays this month only three were in
attendance to collect their birthday dollar.
Linda Bennett, Hunt Master, announced the sale of
newly designed club t-shirts and March 15th for the
Memorial Hunt. Steve Hamedl received an Award for the
Most Returned Items to the Rightful Owners in 2013. He
received a Silver Half Dollar.
Jim Smith volunteered to provide the Mystery Item for
March.
Victor Sheppard won $50 in the 50/50 Raffle.
The winner of the gold nugget, silver round and two
science museum tickets was Cheryl Petenbrink.
It was great to see some of the new members participating
in the Best Finds for the month. Keep up the good work
people!
Respectively submitted, Jan Smirnow

KEEP IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
Our sympathy to Sharon Bouyoucas for the loss of her
husband, Ernie Bouyoucas. He was president of the club
in 2007 and 2008. Ernie had a love/hate relationship with
his metal detector in his search for that elusive gold. But
he always enjoyed the club and the friendship of meetings
and hunts. Ernie will be missed.

T-SHIRTS

Club t-shirts will be ready for payment and pickup at
the March meeting. $10 for small-XL and $12 for @2XL.
The blue is a lighter blue than our current shir - called
Carolina Blue. The embroidery of the club patch is very
well done. .
CLUB WEBSITES

Lobota manages. He welcomes club members to share

ONGOING CLUB PROJECTS

miscellaneous items of costume jewelry/tokens/metal toys,
pull tabs, and empty ink cartridges. Give Jan Smirnow or
Linda Bennett your donations.

CHALLENGE LEVELS
Do you enjoy a good challenge? If so, then you should
join the quest to master the five challenge levels! This fun
program offers a coin reward simply for finding a specific
group of targets (much like a scavenger hunt) and showing
those finds to the hunt master (Linda Bennett).
For questions or explanations, come early to a meeting
and speak with Linda.

filming will be on a local Japanese TV show this spring
and we were promised a copy of the DVD.
