July Meeting Minutes
Our July Meeting was held in the newly renovated Women’s Garden Club across the street from the South Florida Science Center. The Science
Center has use of the building, and has officially called it the Multipurpose Center (MPC). The building is fantastic as reported earlier this year!
President Nash opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance to our country’s flag. Frank purchased the flag with his own funds, so we don’t
have to say the pledge to a pretend flag any more. Thank You Frank!
Several guests were greeted and four joined our membership by the end of the evening.
Please welcome when you meet them: Arnie Steiner of WPB, Ivan Cardoso-Mata of Delray Beach, Juan Echemendia of WPB and Kevin Bean of
Sue Chonoles, our Vice President did not fail in her duties to give us some terrific Tips for metal detecting. Sue is putting together a booklet of all
the tips she and others have given in the past. If you want to add a tip to help others, let Sue know at the next meeting!
Our treasurer, Laurie Haire reported a nice balance of $1900 plus and announced our new raffle for a stagecoach troy ounce of silver. Several
spots are still available, and tickets can be purchased at the next meeting.
Laurie reported that we received another thank you letter from the Ronald McDonald House for the donation of the pull tabs.
Secretary, Jan Smirnow apologized to several members for not having their name tags ready and promised to have them ready for the August
meeting. She advised that the library books will be very few as there is not a lot of room on the shelving above the oven in the kitchen. The
procedure is still pick out a book, sign the card it contains and leave the card in the cupboard. Please return the book at the following month’s
meeting by replacing the card (signed out) in the book.
Jan also announced that Member Devin Stehr has volunteered to chair the Hunt Committee, and those serving with him are Cheryl Petenbrink and
Jan Smirnow. Any other members of the club who wish to help with planning and holding hunts are more than welcome to join. Contact Devin
Stehr at Tel No 561-909-5359 or by email: Eclipse1875@gmail.com. Hunts will start in September.
President Nash started the program for the evening on The Proper way to Metal Detect. He demoed how to swing the metal detector, and talked
about how to use a Minelab Excalibur, and digging and retrieving your finds. Nicely done Frank, and very informative to all members, old hands,
Longtime Member, Ken Lubinski of Altha, FL sent the club a bottle of his own hives honey. The bottle weighed 1 pound and was pure strained honeyno additives. The honey was auctioned off by President Nash starting at $1 and after heated bidding, new member Juan Echemendia won it for $10!
Thanks to Ken for the donation, and to Juan we hope you enjoy it!
Anyone interested in pure honey can contact Ken at Tel No. 561-762-0116 or his email Kenfirstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, according to Ken,
former member Stacey Delucia got him started in Stained Glass and you can check his work out on Facebook it is BEAUTIFUL.
