WELCOME TO NEVERLAND - A PLACE TO CONNECT
2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Neverland Studios. We love to grow and develop our dancers and our school, and
we are extremely excited about creating another amazing Neverland community in East Auckland. With over 900
students currently attending classes across our 2 venues in Auckland (North Shore and Ponsonby) we cannot wait to
continue this growth by bringing Neverland to you!
Throughout the weekly timetable, in 2017, we will be offering a wide range of classes designed to suit all interests. We
believe in encouraging and creating versatile dancers and will be offering classes each week in the following genres:

Neverland has an incredible team of teachers and mentors who are all highly skilled and are passionate about teaching
dance so we can assure you that you are in great hands!
Our dance classes are structured to cater for all ages and abilities from 3 years to Adult. Our philosophy is to provide an
environment where children and adults alike not only develop their dance ability but their confidence, social skills,
passion for dance, and a positive attitude. We offer both syllabus and open classes (non syllabus, free-work) that are
accessible to all people.

HOW TO ENROL
Online enrolments will be open soon for Neverland East. In the mean time you can do one of the following:
1. Fill out the enrolment form (one per student) and return it to the ALBANY office with payment of term fee.
2. Take a clear photo on your phone and email it to office@neverlandstudios.co.nz
3. Email us your details ensuring that you include all information that is asked for on the enrolment form below.
Please make sure you list the classes you would like to be enrolled in clearly with day, time and class level. If you have any
queries please email us at office@neverlandstudios.co.nz
We will start to approve enrolments from new students from Monday 12th December.
Please note: Your place in a class is only secure once you have paid full term fees.

UNIFORM
We understand that Dance Xpress has had a uniform in place. If you are carrying on with a class in a genre that you already have a
uniform for you will have until Term 3 to be in the correct uniform.
If you are a new student or are starting a new genre with us then you are expected to have the uniform by week 3 of Term 1.

COMMUNICATION AND NEWS
Throughout the year, you will receive term newsletters updating you on upcoming events, staff news, class news and the running of
Neverland. These newsletters will be emailed out so please make sure that we have your correct email address. Our Facebook and
Instagram pages are also great places to keep up to date with Neverland news. On our website, you will find copies of our current
timetable, enrolment forms, uniform information and event information at our website - www.neverlandstudios.co.nz
TIMETABLE
Our confirmed timetable will be on the website soon. We will also email out a copy to all email addresses that Claire has had on file
with Dance Xpress.

THE YEAR AHEAD
For syllabus classes, the first six months of the year is spent working towards exams. When you enrol, you will be advised as to
whether your classes are exam classes or open/free work classes. Teachers will advise students regarding their suitability to sit an
exam, and the final decision is that of the teacher. You need to consider your commitments carefully if you want to aim for an exam,
too many missed classes may affect your chance of being selected/entered.
Our School Holiday Programmes are always a favourite event with our students. The programmes run for a week and give students
the wonderful opportunity to trial new dance classes and to polish up in preparation for exams. It is an expectation that if you are
selected for an exam you will be attending the Holiday Course as exam preparation.
Kairos Dance Convention is coming back to New Zealand in 2017 - you don’t want to miss out on this epic convention!
For the second six months of the year the focus turns towards the end of year production. This is a fantastic professional show which
is the highlight of the year.

2017 Jazz Syllabus

An introduction to our Jazz Syllabus… Global Dance Qualification or GDQ
North Shore and Ponsonby Studios are currently following this syllabus.

This syllabus includes new teaching methods and content that is fun, refreshing, challenging and
inspiring. GDQ pulls from the most well respected dance technique methods from around the
world and aligns with world industry standards of what is expected from students of all ages.
WHAT SETS GDQ APART?
-

Classes include acrobatic and flexibility movements.
Dancers are encouraged to achieve more technically demanding steps at an earlier age.
Flexibility and strength plays an important role.
Exams are focused on technical ability rather that retaining too many steps at a young age
so teachers are freed up to work on skill rather than drilling repetitive exercises.
Syllabus is dynamic and fun and replicates movements that are demanded in the
professional dance world.
New exercises are released annually so teachers have a larger repertoire to use in classes
and students are always exposed to fresh ideas.
While there is a core technical belief and philosophy, different techniques are used so
dancers grow with an open mind to different approaches.
Choreography is a collaborative effort from choreographers of all different backgrounds to
ensure students get a broad set of influences.

In 2017 jazz classes will be based on GDQ but will still include open work, with students working
towards their first exams in 2018 if they wish and if they are ready.

- FEES ARE PAYABLE STRICTLY IN ADVANCE PRIOR TO THE TERM COMMENCING TO SECURE A PLACE IN A CLASS,
- IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID YOUR FEES OR ATTENDED CLASS BY WEEK 3 OF THE TERM YOUR ENROLMENT WILL BE DELETED,
- ALL STATUTORY HOLIDAYS ARE OBSERVED AND FEES HAVE BEEN CALCULATED OVER THE YEAR,
- THERE ARE NO MAKEUP CLASSES OR REFUNDS GIVEN WHERE CLASSES CLASH WITH PUBLIC HOLIDAYS OR EXAMS,
- NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN FOR MISSED CLASSES DUE TO OVERSEAS TRIPS, FAMILY HOLIDAYS OR BIRTHDAYS ETC. REFUNDS MAY BE GRANTED DUE TO ILLNESS,

· CLASSES AND WAITING LISTS
- All classes have a maximum number of students. If this number is reached a waiting list will begin for new enrolments into the class. If you are
added to a waiting list you will be contacted when a space becomes available for you. There will be no fees charged for being on a waiting list.
· PHOTOS AND DIGITAL DISPLAYS
- Neverland takes photos/videos throughout the year of classes and events. Photos/videos throughout the year may be added to the Neverland
Facebook or Instagram page, please make the office aware if you or your child wishes to not be in photos/videos. Some of these photos/videos
will be offered to you for purchase.
· EXAM POLICY
- No student is guaranteed a place in an exam,
- A nomination for an exam is based on the assumption that the student will fully commit to exam preparation,
- If classes are missed this could jeopardise your place in an exam,
- Students can be pulled out of an exam at any time at their teachers discretion, this is a last resort and parents will be alerted to this possibility
before a decision is made.
- Certain syllabus classes require a minimum amount of classes that must be attended (Grade 1 Ballet and above, Development 2 Jazz and
above)
- Late exam entries will incur a penalty fee,
- Every student should have their correct exam uniform appropriate to their level from the beginning of the year.
· SHOW POLICY
- Taking part in the end of year show is not compulsory although is highly recommended as it is the highlight of the year.
- A show costume fee will be included in your term 4 fees. This fee is incurred per dance that the student participates in but is capped at a
certain level. This fee is a contribution towards sewing, purchasing, laundering, storage and handling of costumes.
- A show fee will be included in your term 4 fees.
- Attendance at show rehearsals is compulsory.
- During the show period, studio rehearsals and theatre week, there are no normal timetabled classes; please refer to your cast list.
· UNIFORM POLICY
- Uniform is compulsory for all classes and must be worn by the third class students attend. If uniform is not worn after this time, students can
be denied entry into the class.
- Continually attending class not in uniform could jeopardise your place in your class,
- Correct uniform must be worn for each genre - i.e. students are not allowed to wear jazz uniform in a hip hop class.
· CREWS
- Crews and Troupes are by audition or invite only.
- Crews and Troupes are often required for extra weekend/holiday rehearsals.
