Informed Consent Form for Non-Pool Adult Participants
You are invited to take part in a study named Learning and Visualization. The study is designed to learn
more about how people process new information. It is being conducted by Alexa Hubbard, who is the
principal investigator, as part of her doctoral research training. The faculty sponsor of this work is Professor
Yaacov Trope in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts & Science, New York University.
If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to complete some computer tasks. You will be presented
with different pieces of information about people, places, behaviors, or objects, and will be asked questions
about them. Your participation will take less than 30 minutes and you will be paid 50 cents for completing
There are no known risks associated with your participation in this research beyond those of everyday life.
Although you will receive no direct benefits for participation in this study, it may make you more aware of
how knowledge is discovered in psychology and help the investigator better understand how people process
social and non-social information.
Taking part in this study is voluntary. Not taking part or withdrawing after the study has begun will result in
no loss of services from NYU to which you are otherwise entitled; and it will not affect your grades or
academic standing in any way. If you withdraw at any time, no payment will be given. You have the right to
skip or not answer any questions you prefer not to answer.
Confidentiality of your research records will be strictly maintained by assigning code numbers to each
participant during data collection and de-identifying data after data collection is complete, by electronically
deleting identifying information. The de-identified data from the study will be kept at least until 5 years after
publication, as recommended by the American Psychological Association. De-identified data may also be
posted online when research results are published.
