Here below are all the schools, training centers and licensed agencies
operating in Beijing. This is neither our blacklist nor our white list but a
starting pont for you to learn how to conduct due diligence. Consider it basic
training for ESL & TEFL teachers in China.
The only truly safe employers below are the public schools and universities of
China. They do not play games nor do they cheat their teachers. But their pay
is capped at a maximum of 12,000 rmb per month which includes a 2,000
housing subsidy if they cannot provide you a furnished apartment on or nearby
the campus.
All others that appear on this list need to be checked against our current
blacklist at http://www.chinaforeignteachersunion.org. By checking this
most current list you will be able to narrow your search down to Beijing TEFL &
ESL employers who have the least or no complaints filed against them. It
seems awkward in the beginning but many find this to be a fun game wading
through the list and crossing out the land mines that show up on our CFTU
blacklist which by no means is 100% perfect. At best it is about 95% accurate.
But just in case we missed someone, you take your last 10 choices and run a
google online search for them using their company name followed by a comma
and the word “scam”. If nothing shows up on the first 5 pages you are good to
go.

and send them your resume, photo, and cover letter stating your top three
locations where you want to work, your qualifications, experience, and your
date of availability. Do not nag these employers. If they like what they see they
will contact you so long as you included your Skype, email address, and mobile
number for yourself.
You will be asked for your “salary expectation” and to this do not respond with
a specific number. Instead say “I will consider any fair offer you wish to make.”
They will generally respond with some crazy low-ball offer unless they are a
public school or university. Whatever you are offered you should reject your
first offer and ask for at least 5,000 to 10,000 more than you are offered. If you
are a native- English speaker from America, Canada, U.K. or Australia you
should accept no full-time salary less than 20,000 rmb per month after taxes.
