Strong College Applications: Guiding Students Through the Process

COMMON APPLICATION COMPANION
The Common Application is accepted by over 500 colleges and universities, allowing students to
complete one application for multiple public and private 4-year colleges to which they are applying. The
application is only available online, at www.commonapp.org. Be careful to visit the .org site, and not the
.com site.
General Application Notes :

Any question with a red asterisk is required. However, students should answer as many
questions as possible, not just the required ones.
Before leaving each page, students should click the “save and check for errors” button. This will
allow students to correct errors as they go, instead of leaving them all to the end.
In order to begin the application, students must add schools.
Each school determines the cost of applying.
Payment options: Credit card or electronic check online.
Fee waivers are accepted at each individual school’s discretion.

Application Timeline:
 Application filing dates: Deadlines are set by each individual school.
 Processing time: It can take a few weeks or a few months to receive confirmation of admission.
