July 29, 2017, the Truelight Baptist
Church Youth Department took a
trip to Memphis, TN to visit the National Civil Right Museum. Included with the visit
to the museum, was lunch at the famous, BB King
Restaurant and an overnight stay in Memphis.
The youth department benefited from visiting
the National Civil Rights Museum by learning
about the Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to
1968,a nonviolent freedom movement to gain
legal equality and enforcement of constitutional
rights for African Americans. They learned about
the sacrifices that were made by people such as
Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King and many
others.
Our youth were excited to learn, eager to ask
questions and enjoyed one another’s company,
It was truly a beautiful sight to see. Enjoy some of
the greatest moments captured!

VBS
was held the week of July 24-27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Our theme: Freedom and our theme verse was from
the 5th chapter of Galatians verse 1: "For Freedom Christ has
set us free."
We explored not only the Biblical and Spiritual meaning of
freedom but we looked at the lives of contemporary men and
women who devoted their lives to working to achieve freedom. We call them Civil Rights leaders but in reality they were
Christian men and women whose lives were centered in a deep
and abiding faith in Jesus. Also, we briefly looked at the lives of
Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
There were 40-45 people each night. Adults and young people
came looking forward to being together and learning together.
The format was simple but structured to allow for a devotions,
snacks, music, class time, games, a closing that individual grades
were responsible for and closing prayer and song.
We had good and strong teachers who really made our week
successful. My thanks to them.

Monthly Bible Vocabulary Word
Hallelujah hal·le·lu·jah
The term is used 24 times in the Hebrew Bible
(mainly in the book of Psalms, e.g. 111–117,
145–150, where it starts and concludes a number of Psalms) and (4) four times in Greek transliteration
in the Christian Book of Revelation. In the Hebrew Bible
hallelujah is actually a two-word phrase, not one word. The
first part, hallelu, is the second-person imperative masculine
plural form of the Hebrew verb hillel. However, “hallelujah”
means more than simply “praise Jah” or “praise Yah”, as the
word hallel in Hebrew means a joyous praise in song, to
boast in God. Hallel could also refer to someone who acts
madly or foolishly.
Exclamation
1.God be praised (uttered in worship or as an expression of
rejoicing).
“He is risen! Alleluia!”
Noun
1. An utterance of the word “hallelujah” as an expression of
worship or rejoicing.
ruelight is blessed to have received many visitors so far this year. Since the 107th Church Anniversary in
April, visitors have chosen to worship with us.
In June, The Bowtie Boys, from Dallas, Texas, visited Truelight where the we rang the bell as we did during the
1917 East St. Louis race riots.
The Davis Family visited Truelight just because. No one in the Davis
family was from East St. Louis, but they heard and read about the rich
history of Truelight and its involvement in 1917.
The East St. Louis Sr. High January and June Class of 1967 celebrated
their 50th class reunion.
Lastly, the Suqualakian
Reunion Committee
chose to worship with us
in August. Our member
The Bowtie Boys
Mr. Percy Murdock, who
passed away in February this year, co-founded the Suqualakian
Reunion & Scholarship Fund.

The
Pastor’s
Corner
Rev. Timothy J. Chambers, Sr.
Hello TLBC Family!!!
T
his year seems to be flying by. I vaguely remember New Years and
spring slipped by. I guess we had a summer and now we are rolling into the fall. With time flying by, I thought it would be a good
idea to look back and think about where we were at the start of
the year and where we’ve come. Sometimes glancing back and remembering where we were physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally forces
you to ask yourself a few questions:
1. Am I better today?
2. Is there something I left along that way that I wish I had?
3. Is there something that I should have let go of that I’m still
hanging on to?
4. What positive change(s) have I initiated here at Truelight?
5. Who have I let down?
6. Who have I picked up?
7. If God was evaluating me, how would I rate on a pass or fail
scale?
8. Am I willing to go where GOD is taking me?
9. Have I and do I continue to contribute?
10. Am I here because I’m committed or because I’m accus
tomed?
You know one of the greatest joys and challenges of my life is to be carrying
out the "God Called" preaching of the gospel here at Truelight. To be able
to proclaim His "Good News" and see peoples lives changed is at times over
whelming but always a blessing. I feel that through the Holy Spirit both
young and old have been enriched and indwelled and I believe that we are
in His will here at Truelight Baptist Church. Yet, I am convinced that there
is still so much more work to be done. Studies have shown that typically
20% of the people do 100% of the work and 80% of the people reap the
benefits. I am of the belief that in the end the 20% will reap and the 80%
will weep. What side of the equation will you be on?
PRAYER FOR PEACE
Almighty God,
from whom all thoughts of
truth and peace proceed,
kindle in the hearts of all
men the true love of peace,
and guide with Your pure
and peaceable wisdom
those who make decisions
for the nations of the earth;
that in tranquility Your
kingdom may go forward,
till the earth be filled with
the knowledge of Your love;
through Jesus Christ our
Lord.
- Christian Prayer
Many are called, few are chosen.
I LOVE TRUELIGHT!!!
