Thomas “Running Bear” Smith founded TSI in 1980 with the
support of his loving wife. The company soon acquired
minority certification as MBE. Mr. Smith was passionate from
very beginning. He quickly became aware of the importance of
not only employing minorities but worked tirelessly as an
advocate to ensure that he would utilize minority companies
as he encouraged others to do so.
Tom Smith Industries was one of the first MBEs to hold a seat
on the NMSDC (National Minority Supplier Development
Council) BOARD. TSI also became the very first Corporate Plus
member at NMSDC.
Mr. Smith was notably the visionary and co-founder of NABA (Native American Business
Alliance). He was dedicated to Sun Watch Indian Village – Ohio. Whenever asked to reach out
to others “Running Bear” was always there. He can best be described as a giving, caring
individual. He received a host of awards and recognitions too numerous to mention.
