Introduction

Egypt Ice Hockey is seeking your support to establish the
First Egyptian Ice Hockey Committee. According to the
International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), there are about
1.64 million athletes that play organized ice hockey. The sport
has been steadily growing since 2000 as USA Hockey has
seen a 20% increase in participation.
Total Sportek ranked worldwide sports based popularity and
ranked Ice hockey as number 9 of 25. The sport has a
financial benefit, the professional league in the USA has a 4.1
billion USD in annual revenue.
Currently in Africa only 5 countries have established Ice
Hockey Programs. Of these counties only 2 are members of
the IIHF (South Africa and Morocco). We would like to make
Egypt number 3.

Introduction

Cairo, Egypt

New York, USA

Montreal, Canada

The Process

Established in 2002
In 2002, a few local players began playing ice hockey at the Maadi Family Land ice rink we now call our
headquarters. Without nets and barley any equipment, these players introduced Cairo to live hockey for the first
time. Quickly word spread and the sport grew. Club Teams were established, a regular time slot for the games was
created and a tournament league formed. Currently, there are more than 150 ice hockey players playing in Egypt.
Many more playing this Canada, United States, Asia and all around Europe.
In February 2016 after years of preparation, Egypt was formally invited to the First African Ice Hockey Cup of
Champions. The countries participating were Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and the host country Morocco. Thanks to this
tournament we have added additional members and senior advisors with extensive hockey experience to our Board
of Directors. With their help, we have quickly set in place the organizing body ready to support a Egyptian Ice
Hockey Committee and future Federation. After extensive meetings, the Board of Directors have setup a master plan
for the program. Our first step was establishing a marketing campaign. In the last 12 months, we have been featured
on many television stations around the world including iTV in the United Kingdom, TSN in Canada, Mehwar TV,
OnTV, OnSportsTV and Maroc Cinq in Morocco. We have established a social media campaign through Twitter:
Egypicehockey, Instagram: Egypticehockey and a newly designed website www.egypticehockey.com. We have
secured our first sponsor, Charged sportswear in Canada who supplied our jerseys for the tournament. An Anubis
Ice Hockey School was formed to train players of all ages at two different locations in Cairo.
On September 10, 2016, We hosted the first Cairo Anubis vs International Anubis exhibition match. Players
from the USA and Canada played vs our Local Team. The Match was held at our sister rink in Genena Mall. Over 200
spectators watched the 1.5-hour match. It was the most competitive Ice Hockey match ever played in Egypt.
In October 2016, our Egypt Ice hockey was accepted to be represented in the International Hockey Hall of
Fame in Toronto, Canada. This museum is the most popular hockey museum in the world with over 300,000 visitors’
annually. Proudly Egypt will now be represented with the best in history. In November 2016 four members of the
Anubis Team including two board members traveled to the Hall of Fame as guests for the showcase unveiling.
In July 2017, Egypt Ice Hockey is secured a major partnership with Hockey4all and The Hockey Foundation.
This will bring much needed support to the program in Cairo. Both International foundations are recognized
worldwide.
Via www.hockey4all.com: “Hockey4all aims to give everyone the opportunity to not only skate and play
hockey, but to spread general awareness of the sport we all love so much. Our team has traveled to over 20
countries in hopes of helping spread hockey and growing programs. Locally, our team also contributes to local
communities and works with NHL (amongst other teams) on helping develop hockey through grass root programs.”
Via http://hockeyfoundation.org/index: “The Hockey Foundation's mission is to use ice hockey to reinforce
character strengths, improve the quality of life and empower children in less fortunate regions of the world. In its
purest form, hockey can permanently and positively change the lives of all that come in contact with the game, as it
can build and reinforce character strengths such as accountability, honesty, teamwork, selflessness, discipline and
resiliency.  Our vision is to reach children in communities around the world and use ice hockey to positively influence
their lives, in the hopes of creating a better tomorrow. The partnership is targeted to bring in three key elements:
1. Gear Donations
2. Pyramids Hockey Game Major Event
3. Organization Development
