37 members and guests were present to see an
interesting slide show presentation by Dr. Sue
Comerford abour the history of Palm Beach Cotrirty.
Bob Dobski told about finding his first Euro dgllar.
Has anyone else lbund one?
Upcoming evenls of interest: The Sebastian club is
putting on their annual hunt in Grant Florida on
March 22"d. The Great Southern Beach Shootout will
be held in Daytona Beach on May 10e and 1le. First
prize is a 2003 Ford Ranger truck. For info on these

Overheard during the break. One of our newest
members told about working in the County offices
helping folks file for the $25,000 Homestead
Exemption. He said at least two people asked when
they would get the check!

Start collecting items now for our annual Chinese
auction in March.

About twenty members responded to the survey
that was sent to all memLrers last month. The
summary of that surey wili be in the ivlarch
newsletter.

I picked a great year to volunteer as your president.
This year marks our 30h anniversary as a treasure
club! Not many clubs have that distinction. It is
because of your love for the hobby, and the many
volunteers over the years, that have made it the fun
club that it is and will continue to be. This year
brings inlormative speakers, untamed hunts and the
untold stories (from you) of the mysteries of .,digging

THE HTJI\TMASTER'S CORNER
The Lake Worth Beach hunt:
Temperatures in the forties didn't stop 11 people
from attending the club hunt on Lake Worth beach on
Jan. 25ft. It was too windy to start a fire so they had
to swing that detector to keep warnl The $oup
hunted the beach, the grassy picnic area and the grass
under the parking meters. Les Batts found $6.08 with
Richard Zabriski a close second at $6.07. Cheryl
Petenbrink found a silver bracelet and Stacey
delucia dug r:rp a 1982 Lake Worth High School
pendant. Richard, Linda Bennett and Steve Hoskins
found some kiddy jewelry. Nine members then
formed a caravan to go to a school and then a park in
Lantana. Jack Petenbrink came up with a nice silver
ring at the park and low and behold, Dorothy Mills
was already hunting at the school. Rain and the need
for a lunch brotrght a close to the hunt.
The Nlarch hunts:
There won't be a hunt in February but mark your
calendars for two hunts in March. On March 9th,
before the March meeting, will be our annual Silver
Hunt and Picnic. The hunt will be on the Jupiter
beach. Hunt wili start promptly at 8:30 AM and end
at 10AM. Prizes will be awarded between 10 and 11
with lunch following. The club will furnish the meat
and the drinks and we ask you to bring a side dish.
We need you to RSVP by March 5* ,o *" can have
plenty of silver and food for everyone. There will be
a sign up sheet at the Feb. meeting or call Linda at
791-7682. This is our big hunt of the year! Because
of the expenses for food and buried silver the cost is
$10 per detector. To get there take I-95 or USI to
Indiantown Road to A1A and go north. Turn right on
Jupiter Beach Road and then head north into the park.
Watch for the club sign. If you get lost call Linda on
her cell phone 352-4068.
The second hunt in March
will be on March 23'd rn the Sebastian area. More
details will be in the March newsletter. This will
make a nice weekend outing if you would like to
attend the annual Grant Hunt on }darchl}"d.

As a result of the survey and comments from the hunt

am in the process of making two lists
that will be available to the members. One list is
metal detectors owned at present and in the past. This
information wiil be used by members needing advice
on buying a particular brand of detector. The other
list will be for members who are willing to go
hunting with other members. This list will have days,
times and type of hunting preferred. Please take time
during the meeting to fill out the lists.

Cracker Barrel on January 21$ to discuss how
improve our monthly hunts. Bob Dobski, Les
Marilyn Batts and John Lobota met with Li
Bennett for almost two hours. A very producti
meeting with good ideas for the future.

THE CIIALLENGE COI\TEST
The five challenge levels were presented at' the

January meeting. This is a voluntary participation. If
you complete all levels in a year's time period you
will get a special prtze award. Items have to be
brought to the Tall Taies table and shown to either
Linda Bennett orRichard Zabriski for credit. An item
can only be counted for one level. You can work on
multiple levels but can only complete and receive a
certificate and a prrze in ascending order. The
huntmaster has the final decision.
Ail levels will receive a prize and a certificate.
Level 1. Indian Head penny
Level2: Silver dime
Level3: Silver quarter
Level4: Silver half dollar

Level 5: Silver dollar
There was a typographical error on the list passed
out. Leve! 2, item 10 should have heen a large silver
ring instead of a small gold ring.
What is the difference between a

I noticed in the recent survey that one member said
that the "newsletter should be much more
professional." Jim Warnke, our editor, has been a
professional writer for 35 years and has written 7

successful books. (See

the March issue of

Western/Eastern Treasure magazine.) He is the past
president and now chairman of the 250 member
Florida Outdoor Writers Association. When asked
about the "professional" comment he said. "Why?
This is an easygoing, fun loving club and that's the
way I put together the newsletter. 'nufIsaid."
