In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing
Professor X (Patrick Stewart) at a remote outpost on the Mexican
border. His plan to hide from the outside world gets upended when
he meets a young mutant who is very much like him. Logan must now
protect the girl and battle the dark forces that want to capture her.

Wednesday 13 September, 7.30pm
Set against the backdrop of the Gordon Riots of 1780, this is
absolutely a play for today. A story of mystery and suspense which
begins with an unsolved double murder, goes on to involve
conspiracy, blackmail, abduction and retribution, and features Grip,
a talking pet raven. Through the course of the play fathers and sons
become opposed, apprentices plot against their masters and there
are violent clashes on the streets. And, as London erupts into riot,
Barnaby Rudge struggles to escape the curse of his own past. With
its high drama, strange secrets and ghostly doublings.

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young
woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle.
Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and
learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior, allowing her to
recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on

Hilarity Bites returns with a fantastic line-up, headlined by Edinburgh
Comedy Award nominated David Trent, who is renowned for his
genre-busting use of multi-media. Joining David is Lloyd Griffith,
who recently supported Jack Whitehall’s huge arena tour - as well
as appearing in several TV shows himself, and host for the night is
Sunderland’s finest, Matt Reed.

The Avison Ensemble present:
Music: The Italian Connection
Wednesday 20 September, 7.30pm
Pavlo Beznosiuk and Caroline Balding (violins), Richard Tunnicliffe
(cello) and Roger Hamilton (harpsichord) make up one of England’s
leading period instrument groups. The Avison Ensemble celebrate the
legacy of Newcastle’s 18th century composer Charles Avison and the
Italian influence on music of the period in this concert which features
music by Handel, Purcell, Corelli, Geminiani, Avison and others. One
of Avison’s original manuscript Workbooks will be on view at the
concert.
The concert has been made possible with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund
and the Hays Travel Foundation.

Talk: Martin Roberts: Travels with Pevsner – Reviving County Durham

An architect and member of the Institute of Historic Buildings
Conservation; Martin Roberts is the Inspector of Historic Buildings
for the N.E. Region of English Heritage. He is also the founder and
Secretary of the N.E. Vernacular Architecture Group and lectures on
architecture and garden history throughout the region. Also includes
the Civic Society AGM.

Do Not Enter the Monster Zoo, from the book by Amy

This is a Durham Book Festival event.

The Worst Princess, comes a mischievous tale that little
monsters everywhere are sure to fall in love with.
The hero of our story has received an invitation to run a
zoo for a day. This zoo seems rather odd, and the keeper
is in a great hurry to leave for his holiday. This zoo is a
mess and the creatures are all misbehaving. This zoo is a
Monster Zoo!
Join us on this exciting adventure to help our young
hero take on a Monster Zoo full of weird and wonderful

Family: The Three Musketeers

Cry ‘All for one and one for all,’ this winter as we join D’Artagnan
and his friends Porthos, Athos and Aramis, in their quest against
the scheming Cardinal Richelieu. A rip roaring, fast paced,
swashbuckling show ideal for families (ages 5+). Inventive stagecraft,
witty dialogue and with colourful characters from the novel, this
exciting story is brimming with energy and skillful storytelling to keep
audiences captivated. There will be action and romance galore in this

Cal Lynch travels back in time to 15th-century Spain through
a revolutionary technology that unlocks the genetic memories

de Nerha, a distant relative who’s also a member of the Assassins,
a secret society that fights to protect free will from the power-hungry

A welcome return to the legendary band with their visual and
nostalgic show. They are regarded as one of the most popular 60s
bands whose musicians have been together for almost 40 years.
They have performed on many shows with top named acts and their
repertoire consists of popular and memorable music including The
Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Hollies,
Dave Clark Five, Tremeloes, Spencer Davis, The Kinks, The Monkees
and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, to name a few.

The time is 1939 and the place is Poland, homeland of Antonina
Zabinski and her husband. The Warsaw Zoo flourishes under their
care. When the country is invaded by the Nazis, the couple are
forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist. The
Zabinskis covertly begin working with the Resistance and put into
action plans to save the lives of hundreds, from what has become the

This is a TakeOff Festival event.

When the daily routine of three friends’ lives suddenly changes, they
discover with a little fun and mayhem how to adapt their world so they
can keep playing together.
A Square World looks at the unfairness of being left out in a world
designed for everyone else but yourself. A very endearing and funny
performance with a gentle poignant message. There is audience
creative play at the end.

Comedy: Steve Gribbin, Stephen Bailey and Pete Otway
Friday 20 October, 7.30pm
Topping the bill in October, Liverpool’s diminutive guitar-wielding
satirist Steve Gribbin returns. He is a regular act at music festivals
throughout the world, and has made countless TV and radio
appearances. Support will come in the form of Stephen Bailey.
Stephen is a renowned TV warm-up artist, working on shows such
as Loose Women, whilst he’s also been seen in front of the camera
on Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side. Host for the night is the
returning Pete Otway.

Theatre: After Eleanor Died; a Victorian Ghost Play
Thursday 26, Friday 27 & Saturday 28 October, 7.15pm
After losing his wife; Charles invites his friend and solicitor, Edward,
to his home to aid in Eleanor’s final affairs and to pursue his research
into psychical events. Telling the chilling tales of the evening, they
discuss stories of murder, tragic accidents and derailments. Can
these stories aid Charles’ research or will they reveal a dark secret?

Hilarity Bites are delighted to welcome self-styled anarchist cook
George Egg to the Town Hall in November. A total sell-out for two
straight years at the Edinburgh Fringe, George won the Spirit of
the Fringe award in 2015. Joining George is the wonderful Pierre
Novellie. An acclaimed live act, Pierre has supported Hal Cruttenden
and Gary Delaney on their national tours, and was nominated for Best
Club Comic at the 2017 Chortle Awards. Host for the night is local
favourite Andy Fury.

Glynn Wales is a former comprehensive school headteacher,
university lecturer in education, ‘A’ level chief examiner and
magistrate. The talk builds on a BBC Greatest Britons vote in 2002
which identified only 3 figures from the 20th century – namely
Churchill (the winner). Princess Diana and John Lennon! How
attitudes change. Mainly political, Glynn aims to cover every 20th
Century Prime Minister and more.

Cook, along with village idiot Idle Jack.
Join us as we travel across the seven seas where
you will encounter good, and evil – lead by nasty
King Rat and Captain Shiver-Me-Fingers, who will
try and cause mayhem for our swashbuckling hero
and friends.

Princess Irene is to be the bride of the goblin king’s son;
unfortunately he hasn’t actually asked her yet. The Princess and the
Goblin is an exciting adventure about the goblins attempts to steal
away the princess. To foil their plan, the Princess will need all the help
she can get from Curdie, the miner’s son, and her mysterious greatgreat-grandmother, who no-one else can see.
This is a story about growing up, making friends and the importance
of family with song, dance and fun along the way.

For the first time ever, we’re hosting a Christmas Comedy Club, and
we’ve pulled out all the stops to bring back local favourite Patrick
Monahan! A familiar face to TV viewers, Patrick was the winner of
ITV’s Show Me The Funny, and has also appeared on Splash, Let’s
Dance for Comic Relief, and Celebrity Squares. Joining Patrick is hotly
tipped, - and multi-award nominated Geordie Lauren Pattison, and
host for the night is the wonderfully catty Aaron Twitchen.

Monday 18 September – Friday 22 December
Michael Dolan 1957 – 2017
Born in 1957 Michael attended school in Bishop
Auckland, and art was his favourite subject, which he
went on to study at Darlington College.
Throughout his life, Michael managed many pubs and
wine bars in Bishop Auckland, always appearing to
be happy and full of fun and became well known and
loved in the town.
During this time Michael continued his love of art,
particularly pencil drawing, pastel, gouache and
watercolour.
Michael died suddenly after a short illness on 18 April 2017, and hundreds of fantastic
tributes were posted on Facebook about him, many mentioning about his artwork.
When his funeral took place, the church was so full that people had to stand outside, - and
the funeral cortege included a group of Mods on their shining scooters as a sign of their
love and respect.

Access & Facilities
Bishop Auckland Town Hall is fully accessible.
There are adapted toilets and lifts to all floors. Wheelchair spaces are available and patrons are
asked to telephone to reserve these in advance (Carers are seated free of charge).
The Town Hall’s Eden Theatre employs a system of raked seating. We will make every
attempt to allocate seats in specific areas in order to accommodate patrons with special
needs. Please advise when purchasing tickets. An induction loop system is available for
those with hearing difficulties. Patrons with hearing aids should set the control to ‘T’.
