Instructions

Most cryptocurrency HD wallets for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies offer the option to
back up the private key(s) by writing down 12 (or 18 or 24) english words. Such a series of words is often
referred to as Seed Phrase or Recovery Phrase.

Hardware wallets, like Trezor, Ledger and Bitkeeper offer the same protection on basis of a seed phrase. In case
the device is lost or is malfunctioning, a newly purchased hardware wallet can be restored with the old Bitcoins
and other coins by entering the seed phrase.

The Seed Phrase gives one the security of a back up. However, any knowledgable person who has the chance
to copy the seed phrase has full access to your coins!

Never make a picture nor scan the filled-in form. Virus software may steal the seed phrase. Never e-mail the
Seed Phrase or transfer it via WhatsApp or similar. Be paranoid.

Store the filled-in form in a safe place. Even better, store it in 2 geographically separated locations. (Think of
disasters like your house burning down).

In case you lose you phone and/or wallet app, you can download the same wallet app on another phone and
recreate the wallet with the ’seed phrase’. All your transactions and final balance will be restored. However, take
note that remarks or labels you may have entered with each transaction (like “payback Alice half of dinner, $37”)
are lost in case of a recovery by the seed phrase.

Although there are standards emerging (BIP32, BIP44 and others), as a standard rule, the Seed Phrases are not
interchangeable between different wallets. So do not count on seed phrase from wallet X to be importable by
wallet Y. [Mycelium on Android being able to import the Seed Phrase from the Trezor hardware wallet, is one
positive exception].

“Device”: example: Manufacturer = Apple Model = My old iPhone 5c.

“Assistance/Trusted person”: a friend of family whom you trust that can help your partner in case they need to
access your Bitcoin/cryptocurrency funds

If you want others to be able to access your funds on a PC or phone, also include the login for the PC or
passcode for the phone.
