From childhood, Mike wanted to be a racing car driver, but, being blind, he never thought that dream would come true…
But, then he asked himself, “what if?”

To date, Mike has pushed the bounderies. The very bounderies which he once feared would be a huge hurdle in the path to
achieving his childhood dreams. Not being one to take no for an answer, Mike has thrived in what has been an extremely
successful career, enjoying a challenging role in the banking industry for over 25 years, whilst balancing a high flying racing
roster. Having set several world records for land, sea and air, whilst being the CEO of charitable organisation, Speed of Sight
(SOS), Mike is regarded as the only blind professional racing driver commisioned by global brands.
Accomplishments & Awards
Mike’s achievements are vast and staggering. It all began in 2001, a significant milestone in Mike’s life, the moment where
“what if” became reality, setting the Guinness world record for the world’s fastest blind motorcycle rider. From that moment
onwards, defying all odds, Mike set a plethora of Guiness world records;
• 2003 - Guinness world record in a car – 144mph (driving Jaguar XJR)
• 2005 - Guinness world record in a car – 167mph (driving BMW M5)
• 2010 - Most loop the loops in a plane – 26 loop the loops in close formation with 3 other planes
• 2013 - Guinness world record in a car – 186mph (driving Porsche GT2)
• 2013 - Guinness world record in a power boat – 93mph (F1 Power boat)
• 2014 - Guinness world record in a car – 200.4mph (driving Nissan GTR)
• 2015 - Guinness world record in a racing truck – 120mph
• 2017 - Guiness world record in a power boat (F1 Power boat)
And the success doesn’t just stop at world records! Mike co-founded chartiable organistion, SOS, back in 2012. The aim is
to deliver life changing driving experiences for people of all ages, abilties and disabilities. If this wasn’t enough, Mike was
also comissioned by Michelin and Audi for a couple of online campaigns achieving a collective reach of over 4 million within
a very short period of time. Mike has also appeared on a huge range of televised programmes including: The One Show,
5th Gear, My Big Day ITV Documentary, Inside BBC Documentary, BBC News, ITV News, Channel 4 News, Channel 5 News,
Sky News and has also attracted media coverage from the Discovery Channel, ITV’s Good Morning Britain and Mazda TV
Mike’s long-term goal is to break his own Guiness World Record, piloting a power boat at over 120mph, whilst raising funds
to build a Speed of Sight Centre for Change.
As of December 2017, Landsail Tyres are proud to announce a new partnership with Mike Newman and his organisation,

With many excellent Landsail agents around the country, it isn’t easy to select one outright agent to star as the dealer of
the quarter. Despite this, the team at Landsail HQ managed to come to a mutual decision. This month, Landsail pay thanks
to Ocean Tyres, Blackpool, not only for their commitment to Landsail, but also their desire to drive for exceptional customer
service. We caught up with company owner, Simon Watkinson for a brief interview to gain a better understanding of his
interests, likes, and thoughts of the Landsail brand.
“In the past year as an approved Landsail dealer, we’ve seen not only our customer base grow, but also our reputation
develop as a garage to trust. Working with Landsail and their support with social media has had a massive impact on our
brand exposure which has been a new way of promoting the business. We’re looking forward to working with Landsail for the

“My ultimate dream car would be an Aston Martin Vanquish, the perfect car!”

“My favourite film is a toss-up between The Goonies, an all-time favourite but I also like the classic Pulp Fiction”.

“If it was my last meal on earth, it would have to be the ultimate Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, a posh roast
How long have Ocean been a Landsail dealer?
“We’ve been a Landsail Dealer for around 12 months, and it’s been an enjoyable product to sell. We’re really looking forward
to growing our relationship with Landsail for years to come”.
What do they see as the strengths of the Landsail brand?
We believe that Landsail is a leading quality mid-range tyre that is a very affordable option for our customers. It’s a simple
as that. In fact, all our lads here, plus me and my wife, all have Landsails fitted to our cars; we believe in the product that
How are the tyres perceived by their customers?
Our customers want a tyre that not only works, but is of high quality, but at a price that works for them, again this is what
Landsail provides. We don’t need to over complicate it, and offering Landsail gives my customers the perfect balance
between quality and affordability.
What would be their selling point to a potential customer ‘umming and arring’ about purchasing Landsail?
In these rare cases, my customers will often look to my personal experience, and as myself, my wife and many family
friends drive on Landsail’s; this tends to speak for itself. Our customers trust us. My employees are able to discuss ratings
and often, can easily compare, perhaps, the premium brands to the USP of Landsail, and it often comes down to price. With
Landsail, our customers can have good quality tyres whilst at a reasonable price point.
How do you find the Landsail dealer programme?
Being a part of the Landsail dealer network not only gives the team and me great support regarding account management,
information and online ordering. We have also been heavily supported by terms of marketing and how we do our social
media which is something we’ve not had from a tyre brand before.
What rewards and benefits stand out as a result of being a Landsail agent?
There are many rewards and benefits from working with Landsail, first and foremost its been the scale of range and
fitments available from Landsail. They cover HPT, plant, winter, run flats, passenger and van tyes, which, for a mid-range
brand, outshine competitors purely on size. Also, they offer a brilliant reward and incentive scheme, provide signage option,
social media training and a strong marketing support. Again, this is unheard of to the level in which Landsail offer.
This quarter, the social media focus is locked on two targets; firstly, to engage consumers directly and raise awareness of
the extensive Landsail product range, and secondly, to introduce and promote what we believe will be an extremely exciting
partnership with charitable organisation, Speed of Sight.
We invite you to #Follow us throughout this quarter, together creating a buzz and excitement around the Landsail brand,
reaching out to all demographics.
To achieve the above, dedicated content will be pushed out on pre-determined days to achieve a consistent message.
Throughout this quarter, we will be introducing two tags; #TipTuesday and #FitmentFriday
#TipTuesday will offer general tips and advice which may be relative to environmental situations. The target demographic
for this tag will be broad, the focus being not only car enthusiasts, but also commuters alike. This may cover seasonal travel
advice as the UK and Ireland move further into winter as well as recommended scenic roads for those looking to enjoy a
festive road trip.
#FitmentFriday will focus upon the consumer. The Landsail range is extensive, with well over 200 unique fitments. The
aim is to relay this message to consumers, emphasising that there really is a Landsail fitment for every application; high
performance, UHP, SUV, commercial, winter and 4Season. Throughout this campaign, the focus will be on a, “did you know”
style post, featuring a broad range of vehicles which account for the majority of the UK motoring market. As a Landsail
retailer, you may find that a specific brand or vehicle type most commonly utilises your services, in which case, we invite
you to join in with the campaign on your social media platforms using #FitmentFriday.
It is hard to ignore the rise of the social media era, with over 2/3 of the UK population now engaging, it’s a great time to get
those targeted messages out there. To stand out from the crowd, we have compiled a list of tags which can be used within
your social media posts to maximise reach.
