Evenings: Monday-Friday, 4:30pm-12:30am – One (1) Position

TITLE: Full-Time Support Worker
DEPARTMENT: Adult Justice Services
LOCATION(S): Residential Bail Program
SALARY: $33,427 – $43,615 annually
HOURS: 35 hours per week

Employment Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Bail Residential Coordinator the Support Worker (SW) will perform various tasks
related to building maintenance, activity monitoring, program duties and general support to residents.
Specifications:
 The position is identified as a male designated position given that the position if a sole shift position
requiring evenings and occasional overnights during crisis situations
 Criminal Reference check required
Experience:

Experience working with clients with complex needs

Education:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Services program or equivalent

Training:

Having attained the required skills and/or be willing to be trained in required skill areas

Training Required:
 ASIST Training
 Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
 First Aid & CPR
 Mental Health First Aid

Language:

Bilingual preferred (English/French)

 Sensitivity to best practices and philosophies in service provision to individuals with complex needs
 Commitment to innovation and excellence is essential in support and services
 Demonstrated ability to assist people to achieve personal goals through person directed planning
 Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
 Understanding of recovery principles and their applications to people with mental illness and complex
needs
 Experience supporting people who have a concurrent disorders, physical and mental challenges
 Demonstrated understanding of positive behaviour supports in assisting people to enhance the quality
of their lives
Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Program Representation/Community Relations:
 The Support Worker must have a firm grasp of the established procedural guidelines to determine an
appropriate response to community members presenting concerns

Program Level Responsibilities:
 Facilitates person directed planning processes to support people in directing their own lives
 Promotes and supports participation and inclusion by assisting people to participate in activities in their
community, as well as build and sustain relationships and connections that reflect the interests
identified by the person
 Monitors and promotes practices that support people’s health and safety
 Teaching daily living and life skills
 Provide teaching and hands on support in residence
 Assist resident to clean and maintain private and communal spaces
 Participate in planned leisure activities with individuals and groups
 Provide emergency crisis intervention and support
 Referrals and linkages to appropriate community resources
 Carries out specific, administrative duties as required
 Supports any further, relevant duties that may be developed or assigned by the Residential Coordinator
 Clearly document all client activity and sign-in and sign-out sheets
 Support facilitation of groups, house meetings, and other activities in the Coordinators absence
 Motivate and role-model social, leisure, and healthy living skills

Maintenance/Cleaning Responsibilities:
 Ensure keeping all offices, washrooms, windows and kitchen area clean; Securing (packing, labelling and
storing) residents’ belongings upon unplanned departures; other tasks that may be identified by the
Bail Residential Coordinator
Building/Activity Monitoring:
 Review log and client notes, take note of important daily activities in Log Book
 Preparation of rooms for new arrivals
Program Representation/Community Relations:
 SW must have a firm grasp of the established procedural guidelines to determine an appropriate
response to community members’ presenting concerns. As the SW may be responsible for community
escorting a professional demeanour and ability to respond in an empathetic and solution-focused
manner to community members’ concerns is essential
