INT. THE SPACE - DAY
The COIN MAN, wearing a cowboy hat, walks over and flips a
quarter. Tails. He motions in the opposite direction and
glides into the darkness.
A 10 second countdown starts.
The MYSTERIOUS MAN stands in the corner. The Space, as it’s
called, looks like an interrogation room but instead of
walls, there is only black void.
SHELLEY, 22, is sitting at a metallic table. The chair she
is sitting on is also made of metal.
The man is sniffing the air but cannot quite seem to make
out the location of this strange odor.
He walks over to another side of the space and starts
smelling again.
He slowly walks over to Shelley as if guided by the smell
and puts his cheek uncomfortably close to hers. Sniff Sniff.
Shelley is perplexed by his behavior all the while
intrigued.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Do you smell that?
Shelley shrugs.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Sniff sniff. You smell that?
SHELLEY
Smell what?
MYSTERIOUS MAN
That stench.
SHELLEY
I don’t. What does it smell like?
MYSTERIOUS MAN
(inhales deeply)
Putrefaction.
WHAM! Shelley has no time to react before a large rotting
pig carcass falls out of the sky onto the table.
Shelley jumps out of her chair and onto the floor.
A heart symbol on her wrist flashes once.

She scurries away in absolute shock. She looks at her wrist
and back at the pig. She is still breathing heavily and an
expression of pure joy emerges on her face.
Part one: SHELLEY
Fade to black.
INT. THE SPACE - 26 MONTHS LATER
The Coin Man tosses the quarter in the air. It’s tails
again. Shelley with her hair tied up in a knot, sighs.
She seems much more comfortable now.
The Coin Man tips his cowboy hat.
SHELLEY
(muttering)
That’s new.
The 10 second countdown appears.
She sits on her chair twiddling her fingers impatiently.
It starts.
It is the Mysterious Man again. Shelley’s eyes instantly
light up.
SHELLEY
It’s you again.
The Mysterious Man is confused for a second but reverts back
to his menacing composure.
He slowly walks over to her side sniffing again.
SHELLEY
Is it putrefaction?
He is caught off-guard slightly. He doesn’t say anything.
He walks behind her and puts his hands on the back of the
chair, thinking.
She is apprehensively waiting with glee.
He finishes thinking and throws the table over. Allowing him
space.

He stands over her and inches his crotch uncomfortably close
to her face. She angles her face away. He immediately sits
on her lap all the while maintaining violent eye contact.
He pulls out a revolver and attempts to load it but the
heart symbol on her wrist flashes.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
What the...
SHELLEY
Hey what’s your name?
MYSTERIOUS MAN
My name?
SHELLEY
I tried adding you last time but
you never responded.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
I’ll send you a request after this.
I’m STEPHEN.
INT. STEPHEN’S SPACE - DAY
It is a crude theater space. Shelley walks through a door
and walks towards Stephen.
Stephen, 24, is sitting at a table and looks at her while
she approaches.
SHELLEY
What is this place?
STEPHEN
Don’t be scared. It’s just a studio
space for movies and theater.
SHELLEY
(smiling and firmly)
I’m not scared. Did you design this
space?
STEPHEN
No. This friend of mine did and he
let me have it for free.
SHELLEY
Kind of gloomy. Does it help you
come up with stuff?

STEPHEN
Not really. Have a seat or stand...
I just use it cuz it’s big. And
because I don’t know you.

Shelley sits down in front of Stephen.
SHELLEY
But I know you... Are you afraid
someone’s gonna steal your
locations?
STEPHEN
Yeah. Aren’t you?
SHELLEY
I don’t design locations. They’re
too much of a hassle.
STEPHEN
Hey. Seriously I don’t remember
you. Have we actually met or are
you one of those pathological
liars?
SHELLEY
Both.
Stephen smiles.
SHELLEY(CONT’D)
You probably don’t remember but
well... it’s a little awkward but,
you were, my first time.
STEPHEN
Really. And I did the pig thing?
With the sniffing?
SHELLEY
Yeah. It scared the shit out of me.
STEPHEN
I’m glad it did.
SHELLEY
Did you steal that whole bit from
someone?
STEPHEN
Well, The pig and the sniffing are
my inventions but you know it’s
cheap. It’s a jump scare.

5.
SHELLEY
You played it really well so...
unlike most people. I’m sure you
know.
STEPHEN
You mean how... how exactly?
SHELLEY
The unoriginality. You know?
STEPHEN
Yeah I guess.
SHELLEY
Yeah... The whole point of the game
is to be creative and original. And
there are barely any rules. You’re
either the Oppressor or the Victim.
You get 2 minutes to get their
heartbeats to a certain BPM andSTEPHEN
Hey I know the rules. I’ve been
playing this longer than you have.
SHELLEY
Sorry I’m venting. I’ve just been
so disappointed with people
recently. They’re so bad and...
lazy at the game.
STEPHEN
What are some of the worst ones
you’ve seen?
SHELLEY
Gosh. There’s so many. Recently I
played a few who... This one
person.

INT. THE SPACE - FEW DAYS AGO
SHELLEY(CONT’D)
This one person. Completely
talentless. Kept screaming at me
for the whole game.
SCREAMER is standing in front of Shelley and contorting his
face into amateur expressions of terror.
Shelley occasionally chuckles at his face, but is mostly
bored out of her mind.

SCREAMER
Boo! Bahhh! Guyagggghh!
SHELLEY(OFF-SCREEN)
When he noticed I wasn’t
reacting to any of his bullshit he
grabbed the table and threw it away
violently. And then proceeded to
scream even louder.
SCREAMER
Boooooo!!! Aaahhhh!!! I’m gonna
kill you!!
SHELLEY(OFF-SCREEN)
It was embarrassing. Another
person. This girl. Slit her throat
and blood gushed out of her neck.
Kept yelling "my neck my neck" and
other things... The whole point of
slitting someone’s throat is so
that you can’t scream for help.
INT. STEPHEN’S SPACE - DAY
STEPHEN
(smiling)
Yeah that’s pretty basic.
SHELLEY
Don’t gimme that look. You know
I’ve never killed anyone.
STEPHEN
Do I know? We’ve never met beforewell once. Go on.
SHELLEY
And the jump scares. It seems like
every single player is infatuated
with jump scares.
STEPHEN
I think they’re fine. If you do it
right.
SHELLEY
(hesitant)
I think they’re fine too. If it’s
right. But... people keep doing the
1-2-3 kind.

STEPHEN
The 1-2-3 kind?
SHELLEY
That’s what I call it. You know...

INT. THE SPACE - FEW DAYS AGO
SHELLEY(OFF-SCREEN)
You’re in a dark hallway. 1: You’re
facing a certain direction. You
hear a noise behind you. 2: You
turn around and lookSTEPHEN(OFF-SCREEN)
Right there’s nothing there.
SHELLEY(OFF-SCREEN)
You turn around again. The monster
or serial killer is standing right
in front of you.
INT. STEPHEN’S SPACE - DAY
Shelley sighs but seems to feel better having let these
observations off her chest.
STEPHEN
You think you’re better than them
don’t you?
SHELLEY
(wry smile)
I am better than them.
STEPHEN
(cheeky/flirty)
Really? I’ve played you twice. And
you’ve lost twice. Explain that.
SHELLEY
I let you win.
STEPHEN
(sarcastically)
Oh really?
SHELLEY
You know the fastest match I ever
won was in ten seconds. As the
victim.

STEPHEN
3 seconds.
SHELLEY
Fuck you. There’s no way.
STEPHEN
I’m serious.
SHELLEY
(smiling)
I don’t believe you. I think you’re
the pathological liar.
STEPHEN
I’m an actor. And all actors are
liars so...
Comfortable beat.
STEPHEN(CONT’D)
How did this 10 second match go
about?
SHELLEY
Right. you know as the victim you
can’t move in any direction. Only
pivot around so I was in a dark
hallway, again, and I knew
immediately what it was. The noise
came so I obliged it. When I turned
around again I made this high pitch
sound. He fell right on his ass
clutching his chest.
STEPHEN
What was the sound you made?
SHELLEY
Just a high-pitched sound.
STEPHEN
I mean was it a sound you designed
or did you just scream at him.
SHELLEY
(embarrassed)
Yeah... I just screamed at him...
STEPHEN
Can I hear it?
