Gaiaca Becomes California’s First Licensed Cannabis Waste Revitalization Company
Monterey, California—December 18, 2017—Gaiaca became California’s first state licensed
cannabis waste revitalization company, receiving their state license on December 15, 2017.
Created in October, 2016, by Monterey Peninsula natives Jonathan Lee and Garrett Rodewald, Gaiaca
has been licensed in Del Rey Oaks and now holds a temporary state license to conduct the business of
cannabis waste management. State-issued licenses are valid for 120 days, going into effect January 1,
2018, when emergency state regulations drop regarding medicinal and adult-use of cannabis (Medicinal
and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MAUCRSA). The state is currently issuing temporary
licenses; annual licenses will not be awarded until after the new year.

As January 1st approaches, operators within the cannabis industry are rushing to apply for their
temporary and/or annual state licenses, essential to operate legally from the beginning of the new
year. Temporary licenses will be valid for 120 days, with a permissible 90-day extension period and
will act as a bridge to annual licensing.
