Nature of the NADs and the Rationale of NADs 2018:
Selected members, leaders, and animators gather every two years for the Salesian Youth
Movement National Assembly Days.​ (SYM Primer, 2008).
SYM@30. The year 2018 marks the 30th Anniversary of the SYM – World, and SYM –
Philippines. The occasion is an opportune moment to the revisit of the SYM vision and mission
in the Philippines prompted by the fast changing face of the youth and its culture.
Indeed, if the SYM wishes to be relevant to the Filipino youth of today, it needs to adjust to the
signs of the times without losing its identity.
NADs 2018 will begin prior to the days of celebration on April 10-13, 2018, and indeed it has
already begun!
The idea of the Vision-Mission revisit was brought up at the National Coordinating Team (NCT)
meeting of FIN and FIS last August 2017 in Cebu. During that time, initial reflections were
already made. This was followed-up by a more serious study and reflection during the NCT
meeting last December 2017 in Makati attended by the three provinces (FIN, FIS, and FMA).
The road map to NADs 2018 begins with the enriching task of studying the nature of the SYM
according to the documents and to the reality of the Movement in the Philippine setting.
Consultations with key personalities and the youth of the SYM need to be accomplished before
the days of the celebration.
During the days of the celebration of the NADs 2018, the few participants will be bringing with
them in the discussions the rich insights and contributions of their fellow youth and animators.

Objective: ​To celebrate the 30​th​ Anniversary of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) in a more
meaningful way by:

1. Articulating a common ​Vision-Mission Statement​ of the Movement in the Philippines;
2. Drawing up with a ​National Strategic Plan​ which ​may​ include:
a. SYM response to challenges of the Church and the Salesian congregation and the
changing image of the Filipino youth as well as the changing landscape of
Catholic youth ministry in the Philippines,
b. National Coordinating Structure(s),
c. Common activities implemented separately and/or common activities organized
jointly,
d. Common terminologies for SYM.
3. Getting to know and bonding with the SYM leaders and animators from the three
provinces in the Philippines.

Document and (3) Questionnaire
On their own, the three provinces will study and discuss the
document, and answer the questionnaire.
SYM FIN, FIS, FMA synthesize survey results
SYM FIN NADS Team​ ​launches the online survey where any SYM member
can contribute his/her answers
