Option 1
Firstly, I believe the first option is good for Jamaica's economy. Tourism already brings in
billions each year, and can be used to pay off debts and increase the economy of Jamaica.
Increasing tourist facilities would encourage more tourists to visit the country. This will increase
the amount of money that can be spent by the government, which can then be invested in
education and healthcare facilities. This is a good long term plan as it means there will be a
steady income for Jamaica with tourism, which will hopefully be invested in the population.
I think investing in Bauxite is damaging for Jamaica in the long term, as it is a finite resource
that once mined, releases toxic substances. it benefits the economy in the short term, but
once the supply is exhausted, all you have is a barren toxic landscape that could've been used
for other purposes. Bauxite mining would help Jamaica in the short term, but wouldn't work in
the long run.
Investing in tourism also includes eco tourism. Jamaica has coral reefs and rainforests, and
investing in facilities such as 'underwater safaris' and rainforest tours would improve the
ecosystem. This would increase income for the country as many people would like to see
'places of outstanding beauty' and will pay to see it. It will help the local population as
they can organise tours for the rainforest, which means they will gain income.
Finally, i think investing in tourism is good for long-term economic stability, as tourism is not
a finite resource, and brings in money for the local population and the government. It can help
Jamaica as they can pay off their foreign debt, and also end austerity in the country. This will
reduce poverty as people will have access to more resources and government services.
