The King of Mushrooms

Chaga growing on a birch tree

“I recommend
considering these
mushrooms for their
health benefits. These
species are known to
be safe, and we have
better evidence for their
efficacy.”

Flavor
Chaga tastes nothing like a regular
mushroom. It has a naturally occurring
vanillin, which is the same type of organic
compound that gives vanilla its flavor.
While the vanillin in Chaga does give
slight hints of vanilla, the flavor is best
described as warm, rich and creamy with
an earthy sweetness.

-Andrew Weil, M.D.

Past
Until now, Chaga has mainly been
consumed simply by making tea with
Chaga, hot water and maybe some milk.
Why? Until recently, to extract the flavor
from the mushroom, you would have to
boil it in water for up to 24 hours.

Present
Our Chaga powder has been through a
double extraction process. This means
that you only need to add it to your drink
and all the flavor and health properties
are readily available. Chaga tastes
delicious when added to any number of
hot drinks (lattes, mochas, chais etc...). In
addition, Chaga can be offered on its own
in the form of Chaga tea, or a Chaga latte.

Chaga

belongs to the
mushroom family and is
popularly referred to as “The
King of Mushrooms” and “Black
Gold”. It is a fungus that grows
on the inside of a birch tree. It
then breaks through the bark
to form a sterile yellow and
black mass on the outside of
the trunk, known as the conk.
This is the consumable part
of the mushroom. Chaga grows
in cold climates, and is almost
exclusive to the birch forests
of the Taiga biome, which
includes Russia, China, Korea,
Eastern and Northern Europe,
northern parts of the United
States, and also Canada.

Why Taiga Chaga?

Why Taiga Chaga?

“I had my first taste of Chaga tea three years ago and
was hooked. Initially, I brewed the tea from Chaga chunks
which was time-consuming. As I learned, this did not give
me the full spectrum of benefits available from Chaga. I then
started buying dual extract Chaga from Amazon. I bought
many different Chaga extracts sourced from many different
parts of the world. Some had great properties but didn’t taste
good, some tasted good but hadn’t been tested or didn’t have
the great properties I was searching for. Others were really
expensive! That made me go on a quest to find the besttasting Chaga that also has high levels of polysaccharides,
beta glucans and triterpenes. After much searching, I found
Chaga from the Siberian Boreal forests (the Taiga region of
the world) that fulfilled all my standards. My Taiga Chaga
is the best of both - great tasting and great properties that
have been independently verified.
I hope that you enjoy my dual extract Chaga, and I
hope that your business can benefit from incorporating it.”

- Amanda Hatherly
Founder, Taiga Chaga

What is Dual Extract?
There are two identifiable parts to a Chaga Mushroom.
The outside which is black, and the inside which is a
yellow/light brown color. The black outer part of the
Chaga contains the vast majority of the taste and
beneficial properties; polysaccharides, beta glucans
and triterpenes etc... These properties are diminished
in single extract Chaga products.

Most Chaga products on the market are a
single extract powder. The result is that they
are a light-brown color, which indicates that
they are not accessing the full benefits of the
mushroom. We have even seen Chaga powder
for sale without any extraction process;
meaning there is no benefit to consuming it.

Taiga Chaga™ is a very dark brown, almost blackcolored powder. This is because we are able to
extract properties from the complete mushroom
via our Dual Extraction Process. This process can
only be done in a pharmaceutical grade laboratory
and contains multiple steps. Chaga has never been
genetically modified, and our product is Kosher. Our
laboratory is ISO, NSF and GMP certified. It is also
regulated by the FDA.

Why Taiga Chaga?

Why Taiga Chaga?

Quality Control and Testing
Taiga Chaga™ is harvested deep
in the Siberian Birch Forests, far
away from any pollutant. This
was of utmost importance to us
because Chaga is very absorbant.
Chaga that is harvested near
cities or industrial areas will often
contain many contaminants,
which can be dangerous to your
health. To ensure that our Chaga
is not contaminated, each batch
is thoroughly tested both before
(raw material) and after (finished
product) processing.

What we test for

We have recently secured
$20,000 in funding to have
our Chaga extract thoroughly
tested in an independent
scientific food testing lab in
the United States. This is to
confirm the quality of the
product. In addition, it will tell
us which aspects of the Chaga
mushroom produces the best
flavors, so that we can continue
evolving our product to stay in
front of our competition.

What is Chaga?

Chaga, Mammals and Penicillin

Health
Before starting this section it
is important to note that the
beneficial properties of Chaga
need to be extracted. Without
proper extraction, they will
not be bioavailable and
digestible. The only way to
extract all of these properties
is via a dual extraction
process. This process is needs
to be done in a pharmaceutical
grade laboratory. Our dual
extraction process and facility
will be thoroughly covered in
the next section.

It is also important
to note that there have been
no known side-effects,
nor cases of excessive doses
being damaging (and Chaga
has been used for millennia).
Chaga is even recommended
to be thought of more as
a grocery item (like cocoa
powder), rather than a herbal
remedy or supplement.

Chaga

has been used
for its health properties
for thousands of years,
however, it only started
appearing in medicinal texts
during the 16th century.
Since then, over 1,600
scientific research papers
have
investigated
the
health benefits associated
with Chaga.

To understand how
and
why
Chaga
benefits humans, we
must understand the
similarities we share
with
mushrooms.
In order to survive,
both mammals and
mushrooms
need
to constantly fight
off bacteria. We do
so,
the same way
mushrooms,
by
producing chemicals
that
kill
these
infectious organisms.

When we consume
these mushrooms, the
chemicals that helped
the mushroom to
survive are passed on
to us, where they carry
out the same duties.
This is the exact reason
we take Penicillin
when we get sick.
Penicillin is a powerful
group of antibodies
produced by the
mushroom Penicillium
Chrysogenum.

Chaga has survival properties because it grows

in extreme conditions where survival is not
easy. The winters are cold, snowy and very icy. The
summers are extremely hot with lots of UV radiation.
On top of this, Chaga is competing for survival with
other fungi, bacteria, and animals. Chaga is able
to survive in these harsh environments because
it is full of many chemicals that help fend off
biological threats. These chemicals allow Chaga
to live and continue growing for usually 25 years.
All of these chemicals happen to be biologically
active in humans. After all, mushrooms are closer
to humans in terms of DNA than they are to plants.
Specifically, Chaga’s DNA is 30% closer to humans
than it is to any plant.
