Interest
As a senior at Cleveland High School, Edmel took
a less traditional route for her final year of high
school. She spent her senior year studying in
Brazil through the AFS-USA BP Global Citizens of
Tomorrow scholarship. Edmel has been studying
both Mandarin and Portuguese, and plans to
use her language skills to make healthcare safer
and accessible for immigrants. Today, Edmel is
studying Public Health at the University of Hawaii
- Manoa.

2016 ALUMNI FEATURE: Cesar Garcia, Class of 2013
2016 has been a busy year for Cesar. While
entering his senior year at the UW, he served as a
Congressional Intern for Senator Maria Cantwell,
was appointed as a Gorton Global Leader by
the National Bureau of Asian Research, and
was a Legislative City Council Intern with the
City of Seattle. Upon graduating with a B.A. in
Geography from the University of Washington,
Cesar began working full-time at the King County
Department of Public Defense.
