Easy Recipes from your Kitchen & Garden

Aloe Vera facial mask:
Simply cut a fresh stem of Aloe, sit cut side down for fifteen minutes to drain
yellow liquid, trim edges and slice down middle. Can be applied directly to face.
Leave on for fifteen minutes and rinse with water.

Benefits of Lavender, Thyme & Rosemary:
Epsom Salts and honey hydrating face scrub: In a small bowl mix one tablespoon of honey and
one tablespoon of Epsom salts. While in bath (of course with Epsom Salts and Lavender
essential oil) gently scrub face and leave on for five to ten minutes.

• Thyme tea – sprigs of fresh time in water that is boiling. Turn off and let sit for 5
minutes.
• Rosemary inhalation – 5 minutes inhaling the plant directly will open neural pathways in
the brain and bring a sense of calm stimulation.
• Lavender sleep sachets – Harvest lavender in full bloom, tie with a ribbon and hang
close to your bed or put dried blossoms in a small cotton pouch and put under pillow.

Ginger, Turmeric (Curcumin), Cinnamon & Coconut Tea:

1 cup of water
1 cup of Coconut or Almond milk (any non-dairy milk)
2 TBS of grated fresh Ginger (can substitute dried herb 1 TBS)
1 TBS of fresh or dried Turmeric
Pepper corns
½ tsp of ground Cinnamon or stick of dried Cinnamon
1 TBS Coconut oil
Sweeten with honey

Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil, peppercorns, and 1 cup
water in a small saucepan; bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have
melded, about 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs and top with a dash of
cinnamon. Do Ahead: Golden milk can be made 5 days ahead. Store in an airtight container
and chill. Warm before serving.

Ginger, Olive and Castor oil hair growth formula:

Ginger - 1 root of this plant
Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
Castor oil – 1 teaspoon
Honey – 1 tablespoon

Preparation and use: Preparing this home remedy for your hair will not be difficult at all. Grate
the root of ginger and then extract all its juice. Finally, pour the liquid into a container next to
the other three ingredients and mix very well.
Apply to the hair once a week on previously wet hair. Allow to remain for 40 minutes. You may
wear a bathing cap or wrap hair in a plastic bag. Finally wash hair as usual with preferred
shampoo and plenty of water.

Remineralizing Toothpaste:
Ingredients:

1 part Diatomaceous Earth (optional)
2 parts Baking Soda
3 parts Xylitol Powder
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
3 - 5 parts coconut oil to get desired texture
Optional ingredients: Essential oils for flavor and benefits; peppermint, clove, and
myrrh are all good.

Instruction:
1. Mix all powdered ingredients (calcium, Baking Soda, Xylitol) well in a bowl.
2. Add Coconut Oil one part at a time until you get desired consistency.
3. Add any optional ingredients, including Essential Oils for flavor (my favorite is
Peppermint Orange)
4. Store in small container like ½ pint glass jar. To use, either dip clean toothbrush
into it, or use Popsicle stick or spoon to put on toothbrush. Another option is to
store in a plastic bag with a corner cut off to be able to squeeze like toothpaste.

Mosquito Repellent Plants and Herbs: And of course Citronella!

Planting Pollinators for bees in our gardens is vital for the ecosystem.

“The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the
planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and
people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find
ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world.”
— Michael Pollan

Benefits of Ingredients in Luminescent Botanicals Products
Carrier Oils and Butters
Shea Butter: Shea butter is very thick and solid at room temperature and has a buttery rich
consistency that makes it ideal for use as a natural eye cream, lip balm, or body butter. Many
studies show that it is especially good at penetrating the skin and contains 60% fat, making
it highly emollient. Thanks to some other special properties, Shea butter does more than
moisturize, it delivers key anti-inflammatory and anti-aging components right into the skin, it
is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It offers UV protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the
skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production.
Coconut Oil: Coconut oil might just be the most versatile health food on the planet. Not only
is it my favorite cooking oil, but coconut oil uses are numerous and can extend to being a
form of natural medicine, be used for natural beauty treatments and so much more. The
coconut tree is considered the “tree of life” in much of Southeast Asia, India, the Philippines
and other tropical locations. And today, there are over 1,500 studies proving the health
benefits of coconut oil. Some of the top coconut oil benefits include:

Balances hormones
Improves digestion
Moisturizes skin
Reduces cellulite
Decreases wrinkles and age spots
Increases HDL and lower LDL cholesterol
Burns fat

Olive Oil: Olive oil is truly a powerhouse when it comes to hair, skin and beauty
applications. Its rich, moisturizing properties make it ideal for use on your hair. While you
may immediately think of olive oil for cooking, keeping a bottle of olive oil handy in your
bathroom can help your hair look healthier, stronger and shinier. Whether you use it as your
regular conditioner, a hot oil treatment or as a hair finishing product, your mane is bound to
reap the many benefits of olive oil.
Sweet Almond Oil: Almond oil is mild and has hypoallergenic properties which makes it
great for sensitive skin. It is best applied when it is at the same temperature as your body.
Another reason almond oil is so good for skin is because it is rich in Vitamin E which is a
very effective anti-oxidant. Apply the oil regularly and your skin will combat stress and UV
damage. Deep cleanses skin and prevents acne, one of the best characteristics of almond oil
is that it is very light texturally, this makes the oil to penetrate deeply into the skin. Almond
oil is a wonderful cure for dark circles and eye bags, simply apply some below your eyes
every night before sleeping and in two weeks you will see the difference.
Babbassu Oil: If you suffer from psoriasis, eczema, rosacea or even acne, using moderate
amounts of Babassu oil is an excellent idea. Babassu oil absorbs into the skin more rapidly
than Coconut oil and leaves behind less of an oily residue, helping to treat these skin
conditions more quickly. Mixing this oil into a hair mask or as an ingredient in your shampoo
can strengthen your hair strands and prevent breakage and split ends. The fatty acids form
a shield, locking in moisture and giving your hair a healthier appearance, while also
stimulating new growth from your follicles.

Jojoba Oil: The most notable benefits of Jojoba oil include its ability to moisturize the hair,
prevent hair loss, reduce inflammation, prevent acne, soothe sunburn, rejuvenate the skin,
eliminate dandruff, fight free radical damage, boost the immune system, and speed up the
healing process. While most of the uses of jojoba oil include skin care and hair care, there
are some other benefits to the body. This oil is specifically for topical use, where it can
deliver a vast array of health benefits to improve your overall wellness and appearance.
Rosehip Seed Oil: Rosehip oil is a truly remarkable natural product with amazing skin
rejuvenating and hair conditioning properties. It has been used for generations by the
Andean Indians of Chile who recognized that Rosehip oil had exceptional healing skin care
and hair care benefits.
• Dry hair - Make bad hair days a thing of the past by simply warming up some
Rosehip oil in a bowl then massage it into your hair and scalp. Leave for about an
hour and then wash thoroughly; you’ll be left with soft, revitalized hair.
• Nourishing oil for dry skin - Rosehip oil is great for the skin too, it’s rich in the
essential fatty acids, such as linoleic acid, as well as linolenic acid. The oil also is
widely used in various skin care products and is very efficient in fighting signs of
aging, as well as diminish photo-aging. .
• Moisturizer - Rosehip oil has a high content of essential fatty acids and is a perfect
skin hydration tool. Spray a little Rosehip oil mixed with water on your skin to
rehydrate and lock in the moisture. This beauty trick is especially good for
summertime.
• Premature aging - The signs of premature aging and skin pigmentation problems
also react well to Rosehip oil. Just put a few drops of the oil on some cotton wool and
dab the affected areas several times a day.
Castor Oil: Castor oil is an age old beauty treatment that has been largely replaced over
time by fancier beauty products with more ingredients and a bigger price tag. Castor oil has
natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins,
and Omega 6 and 9 beneficial fatty acids. Its unusually high ricinoleic acid ratio makes it
beneficial to skin and hair. In fact, castor oil has traditionally been used topically for acne and
other skin conditions, as well as hair loss, rashes and more.
Essential Oils
Frankincense: Frankincense has the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone,
elasticity, defense mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, and appearance as someone
ages. It helps tone and lift skin, reduces appearance of scars and acne, and heals wounds. It
can also be beneficial for fading of stretch marks, surgery scars or marks associated with
pregnancy, and for healing dry or cracked skin.
Myrrh: Myrrh can help maintain healthy skin. It can help soothe chapped or cracked skin. It
is commonly added to skin care products to help with moisturizing and also for fragrance.
Ancient Egyptians used it to prevent aging and maintain healthy skin.
Lavender: Because lavender essential oil is teeming with antioxidants it can help protect
your skin from damaging free radicals, which contribute to fine lines and wrinkles (as well as
other signs of aging skin). Simply combine a few drops of lavender essential oil with coconut
oil, and use as a moisturizer in the morning, in the evening and whenever your skin feels dry.

Cedarwood: Cedarwood essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation
from wood pieces of the cedar wood tree. The major components of cedarwood essential oil
are alpha-cedrene, beta-cedrene, cedrol, widdrol, thujopsene and a group of sesquiterpenes
— all of which contribute a great deal to its health benefits. Antifungal, focus and wisdom,
promotes hair growth, has anti-inflammatory agents and tightens muscles.
Sandal Wood: The health benefits of sandalwood essential oil can be attributed to its
properties as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic, antispasmodic, astringent,
cicatrizant, carminative, diuretic, disinfectant, emollient, expectorant, hypotensive, memory
booster, sedative, and a tonic substance.
Rose: There are many qualities of rose essential oil that make it beneficial for skin. The
antimicrobial and aromatherapy benefits alone are good reason to put a few drops in you
lotions and creams. In 2010, Chinese researchers published a study uncovering that rose oil
exhibited one of the strongest bactericidal activities compared to 10 other oils. They also
discovered that just after five minutes of a 0.25 percent dilution the bacteria responsible for
acne was completely destroyed.
Tea Tree: Tea tree, also known as melaleuca, is well-known for its powerful antiseptic
properties and ability to treat wounds. Tea tree oil, the volatile essential oil derived mainly
from the Australian native plant Melaleuca alternifolia has been widely used throughout
Australia for at least the past 100 years. For over seven decades, it’s been documented in
numerous medical studies to kill many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Tea tree oil uses
are numerous: making homemade cleaning products, diffusing it in the air to kill mold,
applying it topically to heal skin and using it to treat viral infections. It’s an increasingly
popular active ingredient in a variety of household and cosmetic products, including face
Other Ingredients
Aloe Vera: The queen of plants for healing, soothing and regenerating tissues, Aloe vera
contains proteolytic enzymes which removes dead skin cells and promotes healthy new cell
growth. It also acts as a great conditioner leaving hair and skin smooth, healthy and shiny. It
also promotes hair growth, prevents itching on the scalp, reduces dandruff and conditions
your hair. Since the skin needs nutrition, Aloe Vera, when formulated into a properly
designed personal care regimen, can treat, exfoliate, restore, reveal and provide constant,
impressive nutrition to the human skin. And it's for these exact reasons that Ayurveda refers
to Aloe Vera as the miracle herb that is used to treat wounds, minor cuts, dry skin and
severe burns.
Liposomal Vitamin C: Vitamin C has been a long-time favorite supplement for many and
for very good reasons. It is the one thing that has made the whole difference for detox
purposes, but it has also saved the lives of many around the world. Vitamin C also helps
manufacture collagen, vital for the health of all our tissues and the repair of blood vessels,
teeth, skin, joints and bones. It also helps to normalize blood pressure, heal degenerative
diseases and prevent premature aging. It is vital so our immune system can fight viruses,
bacteria and other microbes. Vitamin C is also important in the synthesis of brain chemicals
such as our happy mood neurotransmitter – serotonin. A liposome is like a bag that carries a
substance into your body and its cells. It is incredibly effective at this task since it is made
out of fat. As it happens, it is the same type of fat that make up cell membranes, making the
job of crossing this barrier much easier. Plus, liposomes are super tiny and in that manner
they cross the cellular barrier.
