Module 11 – Romance: For Better or Worse
The family you were born into does not have to be the only family in your life. Good friends can
become family. For many of us, finding a mate is the result of having great friends. When you
find a mate, and start a family, they become a key element of your personal success and
happiness.
It is possible but unlikely that you will find your life-long mate in high school. However, the
young men or women you date now can play an important role in your long-term
development, especially in your personal life.
Your relationship experiences during high school should help you form a clear idea about
what you want your mate to be like. Although dating can certainly be fun, the main purpose of
these early relationships is to learn more about who you are, and to learn what kind of mate
will help you to be all that you can be, bringing you happiness and love in a positive
environment.
----------As you grow older and experience various relationships, take the opportunity to review these
questions and your answers. As you gain experience and better learn who you are and what
you want, some of your answers may change. This reflects your personal growth and should
be taken as a positive step.
If you determine that you have made poor choices when it comes to these situations, it is never
too late to start making better choices. The goal is for you to make choices that will help you
achieve the life you want.
