Module 8 – Finding Your Own Success

As you begin your journey of personal growth, some of the most important questions to ask
yourself are: “What factors in my life have had the strongest impact? Do I value the opinions
and thoughts of my friends more than my family? How much of my situation is within my
control? What kind of environment do I live in? Is this the kind of environment that helps me
thrive?”
By considering all the factors of your life such as friends, family, significant others, school,
genetics, race, and socioeconomic background, you will be better able to determine what is
working for you, what is working against you, and how to get on the path toward your personal
success in life.
Success is a subjective term that can mean something different to different people. However,
certain elements of success tend to be very common. The so-called “American dream”
typically defines financial prosperity as a measure of success. Dictionaries define success as
merely achieving the goals one has set. Some people are happy without a lot of money if it
means they get to spend lots of time with their family. Others want to achieve one aspect of
success, such as education or status levels, to the exclusion of other aspects. This chapter will
help you determine what success means to you. This program is all about you, your outlook on
life, and improving yourself and your wellbeing.
