May, 2018 Club Minutes
We had 25 in attendance, with one visitor. Les Robinson from Delaware was visiting the area. He shared some good information on YouTube
videos.
Frank started the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, spoke about ads being accepted for the Tinfoil Times.

VP Sue Chonoles shared her tips for the month, focusing on safety while detecting. She and Jack Kazee are working on a booklet containing
all of her tips that will be shared with the membership when it is complete. Sue is also working on shirts for the club. She had some
samples with her at the meeting.
Sue also announced the special hunt that was scheduled for May 20.
Treasurer Laurie Haire gave the Treasurer’s report. She also spoke on the new laws concerning beach ownership and access. She had
spoken with the president of FMDAC, who advised her that we should not be too concerned about the new law; it should have no impact on
detectorists.
After the break, Frank demonstrated several pieces of detecting equipment used for different situations, including waterproof detectors,
and different sizes and types of scoops.
The 50/50 winner was won by Andy Riblett.
Thanks to all who attended the meeting. Participation is vital to the life of the club!

I was at Lighthouse Diner for breakfast, when in walks
Lee LeClair and her daughter, Suzette with the club’s
pins proudly displayed for everyone to see. I knew it was
a Kodak moment. I am very proud of them!

Metal Detecting Information Online
Recently I came across this article about the proper care and use of your metal detector. I just had to share it here.
“Triumph in the metal detecting, as well as run through, frequently think about the quality of your entire metal detectors. Improper
not to mention bad metal detectors comparative a whole lot of within the nba, pretended signals, as well as fraud has. Professional
quality metal detectors involve sustained likelihood of shopping for expensive elements and platinum offers.
But the truth is, every metal detectors due to Metal Detector Town have the most effective routine maintenance and care frauds
getting and services information for your requirements forever.”

Ok. That’s enough. I hope I didn’t break your brain. This has to be the worst writing I have seen in a long time. The person who wrote
this claims to be a freelance writer for a Metal Detecting website. Somehow, I don’t believe this is true.
This brings up a very good point. Where to go for quality information on Metal Detecting.
Most of the metal detecting distributors have blogs or forums where you can share information. And most manufacturers have their
own websites and FaceBook pages.
I am a visual learner, so YouTube is my main source for information. I have subscribed to about forty YouTube channels that deal with
Metal Detecting. Some of the ones I frequent are:
The Silversniffer – Ross is a metal detectorist in Southern California. He hunts mainly beaches. His channel is not an instructional
channel per se, but I have learned a lot just by watching him. He uses an Excalibur II, and has recently purchased an Equinox that he is
going through the learning curve with.
Tony Eisenhower – Another Southern California detectorist. He hunts mostly beaches and is entertaining to watch.
Aquachigger – This YouTuber does a lot of hunting on old Civil War sites, mostly around the Virginia / Maryland area that he
researches himself. He hunts in rivers and on land. He also dives for lost items in rivers and finds a lot of lost items.
She Detector – She Detector lives on the west coast of Florida, and hunts mostly beaches. She has a connection with a metal
detecting distributor, so she gets to try out a lot of equipment from them, and does very in-depth reviews.
GarrettDetectors – the official YouTube channel of Garrett. They have a lot of information on their detectors, including many
tutorials.
Houston Metal Detecting Services – a company that specializes in finding lost items. A great way to see how to approach different
types of terrain and learn techniques that help you locate targets efficiently.

During the break, a sticky note was placed under
a chair. After the break, it was announced that
the members should look under their chair, and
see if they find anything. Arnie Steiner found the
sticky note, which won him some swag.
Congratulations, Arnie!
