face defeat in the next Lok Sabha elections.

BJP win in Uttar Pradesh; Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in

BJP leader's killing: Union minister Upendra Kushwaha slams Nitish governmentIndia
Updated Aug 14, 2018 | 19:45 IST | PTI
Reports from Jandaha, where the incident took place, suggested that tension prevailed in the area,
though the situation was under control, and additional police force has been deployed to maintain
peace.

Patna: A day after a local leader of his party was gunned down in Bihar's Vaishali district, Union Minister
Upendra Kushwaha on Tuesday slammed the Nitish Kumar government asking how many murders
would it take to wake the state administration out of its slumber.

Kushwaha, chief of the BJP's ally Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), visited the deceased leader Manish
Sahni's home at Belari village on Tuesday and consoled the bereaved family.
Sahni, Vaishali district president of RLSP's extremely backward castes cell and head of Jandahan block
panchayat samiti, was gunned down by unidentified assailants yesterday when he was coming out of his
chamber at Jandaha block office, according to officials.
"Mukhyamantri Sri @NitishKumar ji, kitni lashon ke baad hosh me aayega Shashan? (Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar ji, after how many murders, the government would come out of its slumber)," Kushwaha
said in a tweet.
The minister also said the incident was like cocking a snook at the police administration.
"The incident is a challenge as the personnel at the police station must have heard gunshots fired by the
criminals who dared to open fire right in front of the SHO," Kushwaha told news channels after meeting
Sahni's family members.
"I don't know what is the administration doing. It seems they (administration) would take note of it
when criminals would fire right in front of the DIG, IG and DGP (Lagta hai ki ab DIG, IG aur DGP ke seene
pe chadh ke apradhi goli chalayenge to sunenge)," said Kushwaha, who is union minister of state for
HRD.
The hard-hitting comment of Kushwaha on his own NDA ministry in the state is significant.
In another tweet targeting the chief minister, the RLSP chief asked, "Did thousands of youths like us
sacrificed our 12 years of life under your (Nitish's) leadership during Samata Party days to witness such a
situation?"
Kushwaha, an old-time associate of Kumar since Samata party days, separated from him just before the
2014 general elections and launched his own party RLSP and became a constituent of the NDA. It won
three Lok Sabha seats, including Karakat by Kushwaha himself, in the last parliamentary poll.
RLSP's youth wing has decided to hold a candle march in the state capital to protest against the incident,
Yuva Lok Samata's state chief Abhishek Jha said.
Reports from Jandaha, where the incident took place, suggested that tension prevailed in the area,
though the situation was under control, and additional police force has been deployed to maintain
peace.

Karunanidhi's funeral: AIADMK hits out at Rajinikanth over remarks against CM K Palaniswami India
Updated Aug 14, 2018 | 19:28 IST | PTI
Both MGR and Jayalalithaa were considered Karunanidhi's rivals. Hitting out at Rajinikanth for his
remarks, Jayakumar said he used the occasion for his own benefit.

Chennai: The ruling AIADMK on Tuesday hit out at top actor Rajinikanth for slamming Chief Minister K
Palaniswami over his absence from DMK chief M Karunanidhi's funeral and claimed he used a
condolence meeting to try to graduate from a "part-time politician" to "full-time" one.
Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar said he represented the government on the chief minister's
direction at the funeral of the departed DMK leader on August 8. He said Rajinikanth should not have
spoken about politics at the condolence meeting.
"It was a condolence meeting for a departed leader. It is not a healthy thing to have spoken politics
there... By speaking politics, it is evident that dear friend Rajinikanth lacks political maturity," he told
reporters.
Jayakumar, the state fisheries minister, said charismatic yesteryear actor M G Ramachandran had
floated the AIADMK "only against the late DMK chief" Karunanidhi.
Speaking at the condolence meeting organised by the South Indian Artistes Association for Karunanidhi
on Monday, Rajinikanth had said many leaders were present during Karunanidhi's funeral at the Marina.
"For his funeral, the whole of India came. State honours were given by members of the three armed
forces. He was given a 21 gun salute.
"But one thing remains. The governor, many chief ministers and Congress president Rahul Gandhi had
come. Tamil Nadu's first citizen, the chief minister, shouldn't he have come?
"Should not the entire cabinet have come? What will people think? Are you MGR (AIADMK founder M G
Ramachandran) or Jayalalithaa," he had asked.
Both MGR and Jayalalithaa were considered Karunanidhi's rivals. Hitting out at Rajinikanth for his
remarks, Jayakumar said he used the occasion for his own benefit.

"He has used this to try to graduate from a part-time politician to a full-time one. "His talk was like a
seasoned politician. He used the demise of a leader to attract his (Karunanidhi) supporters to himself,"
he added.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
leaders are thumping their chest to justify the process of National Register of Citizen (NRC). While
addressing a press conference, Banerjee said that this is not an issue about Hindu or Muslims but about
citizenship.

“This issue is not about Hindu or Muslim, it’s about citizenship. People have been left out because of
their language. BJP leaders are thumping their chest to justify this NRC,” she added.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief claimed that fake cases have been registered against people who
have been left out the NRC list in Assam. She said that those people are being harassed. “1,200 people
are already in a detention camp. Why are 400 companies of security forces being stationed in Assam,”
asked Banerjee.
"It may be applicable for local elections. But, if tomorrow there is no stability and the Central
government falls, how will the state government and Central government go for elections again every
time. Please be practical," Banerjee said on the 'One Nation One Election', a new election process being
pushed by the BJP.
During his visit to Kolkata, Amit Shah attacked Banerjee at a rally and said that the BJP will uproot TMC
from West Bengal. He also attacked her on her opposition to the NRC process and said, “Mamata Didi,
you cannot stop NRC process.” He also asked the West Bengal chief minister why is she protecting
Bangladeshi infiltrators. He asked Banerjee and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to make their stand on NRC
clear. Shah said that BJP is not anti-Bengal but they are anti-Mamata.
Mamata Banerjee, yesterday, launched a counter-attack against Amit Shah for his anti-Bengalis
comment. She asked the BJP if hilsa fish, Jamdani saree, Sandesh and mishti doi, originated in
Bangladesh, would also be branded as "infiltrators or refugees".
