Specialist Titles
The Specialist Register (SR) was launched by Medical Council of Hong Kong in December
1997. According to the Medical Registration Ordinance, Fellows of the Academy can apply
to the Medical Council to have their names included in the SR. After their names have been
included in the SR, they can quote themselves as Specialist in XYZ [XYZ 專科醫生], where
XYZ represents a specialty on the SR list recommended by the Academy (see table below).
Admission to Academy Fellowship does not automatically make the name of a Fellow being
included in the SR. A Fellow must apply individually to the Medical Council.

With effect from August 2003, dentists who are Fellows of the College of Dental Surgeons of
Hong Kong (CDSHK) and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM), irrespective of
whether they are practising in the private sector or the public sector are allowed to apply to
the Dental Council for the use of specialists titles (see below) so long as they remain Fellows
of the CDSHK and HKAM.
