The Best Years of Your Life
a visual album by Leo Majors
What does it mean when you’re told
“These are the best years of your life”?
Written throughout Leo’s high school
and college years, these songs are
about the fear, joy, pressure, and
growth that comes with trying to make
the most of a young life.
• Ten songs written and sung by Leo Majors,
ten music videos produced over the course
of Fall 2019
• Videos do not form a continuous narrative,
but are thematically connected
• Crewed by Purdue film students and Student
Productions members
• Anthemic pop rock
• Influenced by Panic! At the Disco,
Queen, Marianas Trench, One
Direction, Broadway, film scores
• Official tracks to be recorded in the
Pao Hall sound studio in
collaboration with the sound
production department

Tracklist
1: The Good Old Days (They Start Tonight)
A “wow” moment
for the start of
the album, this
cinematic video
subverts the
“party music
video” cliché by
turning the
events dark and
threatening.
This music video centers around
the “pool push” scene, where the
main character is pushed into a
pool, and crashes through a series
of frightening worlds.
2: 99 Proof Kisses
A short music video entirely composed of video scopes,
which dance to the music and leave the audience wondering
what is actually featured in the true picture.
3: Push Back the Dawn
A one-take choreographed dance video in the tradition of boy band
videos, staged on Purdue campus.
A video showcasing a collection of cinemagraphs: photos that have
some constant element of motion about them. This is the point in
the album where the music takes a dark and contemplative turn.
4: Windmills
5: Inspiration
The second cinematic music video;
a meditation on creativity, loss,
and self-improvement.
6: Crooked
Little Boy
A simple, conceptual music video:
Shadows dance and play instruments
on a wall, and the final shot pulls out
to reveal that there is nothing in the
room that could have been casting the
shadows.
7: Was I
Set in the theatre lighting lab, this
lighthearted video is a collaboration with
the theatre lighting department, and
features stage lighting programmed to the
music.
The third cinematic video and the “Dark Night of the Soul” of this album,
Skyglow features time lapse photography, night landscapes, and
collaboration with local visual artists.
8: Skyglow (feat. IMLXH)
9: Stranger
Than Fiction
The final track on the album.
This cinematic video
features kids, grown-ups,
and superheroes, and is a
triumphant victory over the
darkness and doubt of the
previous tracks.
Fantasia on Greensleeves
This short film is not technically part of The Best Years of
Your Life album, but is a cinematic work based on the
composition of the same name by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
