President Frank Nash is working on a special
speaker for the September meeting. As this is
being written, the final details are being worked
out. There is a chance that the speaker may not
be able to make it, so we may spend that time
discussing metal detecting topics.

August 2019 Minutes
President Frank Nash led the Pledge of Allegiance for the eighteen members present. We had one guest, Bob.
Frank mentioned that member Vern Blausey was in the hospital having a knee replacement.
Frank and Laurie talked briefly about their Alaska cruise/trip.
Birthday coins were given out to those present who were celebrating birthdays in August.
Vice President Sue Chonoles shared her monthly tips. This month’s tips were about how to record found coins. She distributed a sheet
that was designed just for this task. Sue also announced that she had more club shirts to sell. She and Dave are also selling the lantern
baskets for night hunting, and club buttons that were created by Dave.
Treasurer Laurie Haire gave treasurer's report. She also mentioned again that she is looking into a weekend cruise for interested
members so that we can hunt on an island. Once she receives the best rates, the details will be announced to the club to see who would
be interested, and best time frames.
Jack Kazee confirmed that all present were receiving the various e-mails that are sent out, especially the Tinfoil Times. He also brought
up the possibility of using a private Facebook page for the club members to use for sharing information. He also asked the group about
having a club Facebook page, but no one seemed interested. The members’ preference is for group texting to be used for quick club
announcements.
Since it was raining, the club activity did not happen. We spent some time sharing stories about metal detecting, and items in the news.
The 50/50 winner was Pete Schneider.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:45.

Frank the Visiting President
President, Frank Nash, received a phone call from the Palm Beach
Pack and Paddle Club to come speak to their group. The meeting
was at the nature center at Okeeheelee Park. The president of the
club learned about the Gold Coast Treasure Club on the internet. It
turns out that Les and Jim Perkins are members of that club and
were there and introduced Frank and Laurie. Frank spoke for over
an hour about our club and metal detecting. We may have some
new guests at our next meeting. If you would like to learn more
about the Palm Beach Pack and Paddle club, you can visit their
website at www.clubkayak.com.

Gold Coast Treasure Club Website
The Gold Coast Treasure Club website is where to go for
the latest club information. You will find a lot of interesting and helpful information there. The website is at http://
www.apex-ephemera.com/gctc/.
Some of the information you will find on our website:

Our current newsletter, as well as an archive all of
our previous newsletters
Calendar of Club Events.
Links to great online resources, like forums, vendors,
blogs, and maps geared for all levels of Metal Detectors.
Other resources, like local tides, weather, precious
metals pricing, county parks and recreation, and
metal detector manufacturers.

There is lots more there, and the website is being updated
frequently, so be sure to check in often!

Unwelcome Visitor We had an uninvited guest over the Labor
Day weekend. Hurricane Dorian spent a few days in the Bahamas
before skirting us and moving up the coast. Storms like this usually
bring some good beach hunting. Were you able to make it out after
the storm? Let’s talk about it at the next meeting. We would love to
know how you made out.
The Bahamas were hit very hard by this storm. It is sobering to see
the devastation that took place just a few miles off our shore, while
we were spared. There are many organizations working to provide
much needed food, water, and supplies to our neighbors to the east.
Please consider helping in any way you can. But before you donate
anything, make sure you are donating to a reputable organization.
Unfortunately, this is a prime time for scammers to profit from
others’ misery.
