Mass vaccination with BCG started in many countries, after the production of an attenuated strain of the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, by two French scientists, Albert (1) Calmette and Camille Guerin in 1921.
It is being tested in combination with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), which is commonly used after tumor rescection and mitomycin C treatment.
