From September 2016, Chineke! becomes an Associate Orchestra at the arts venue, joining Southbank Centre's distinguished family of ensembles and artists including Associate Orchestras Aurora Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Residency Orchestras London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and London Sinfonietta. http://chineke.org/ Chineke! will be part of 2016’s Africa Utopia festival, with a concert featuring popular works which have resonance with the black community. Sibelius’ Finlandia was adopted as the National Anthem of the shortlived state of Biafra in 1967, the suite from the opera L’Amant anonyme was written by the th 18 century black composer Chevalier de SaintGeorges and Dvořák’s “ New World” Symphony reflects the composer’s interest in Native American music and the AfricanAmerican spirituals that he heard during his years in America. Junior Orchestra performs a “Passenger Seats” event in The Clore Ballroom giving members of the public an opportunity to sit within the ranks of the orchestra. http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/chinekeorchestra96321
