Most medical training in North America provides little information about the kinds of spiders that may bite or the means of identifying them.
Although misinformation and rumor have resulted in exaggerated fearfulness of spiders by the general public, it is important to note that spiders do bite people occasionally and possible severe reaction following the bite makes them a public health problem.
