Yes. I know you’re lookinsg at me, going ‘what! Two chapters in one week! Are you feeling ok?” ye s I’m fine thanks for asking but I just got my school laptop and I realised a great way to procrastinate at school, is to write more BIH chapters. Lol, the teachers have no idea!!! BTW school holidays start today, so I’m hoping for at least two chapters in the next two weeks. It should be pretty close to finishing anyway. Ok so, slight warning here. Lime ahead, not too graphic though, so don’t worry. I also have some jobs for you guys at the bottom if you’re interested. I don’t know why I bother though; you’re not reading this one ;). Enjoy. AL L DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN VAMPIRE ACADEMY, ETHAN OR TASHA, OR ANY OTHER WORKS BY RICHELLE MEAD, SHE OWNS THEM. I OWN A SHIT LENOVO SCHOOL LAPTOP THAT HAS EVERY WEBSITE OF ANY KIND OF INTEREST BLOCKED UNTIL I FINISH SCHOOL. Confessions KA T NE In the end, after Tasha had recovered from her tears, they occupied the small sofa in the front room of their cell. For a long time, Tasha lost count of how long, they just held each other. Her chest against his back, his strong arms wrapped around her lithe body, her hands holding delicately but deceptively sturdy onto his arms. While she had recovered from the tears, her fears still ran rampant in her mind. What if he doesn’t love me anymore, what if the only reason he is doing this is out of pity, what if he can’t stand me anymore, what if he hates me. What if, what if, what if. If she wasn’t so concerned that what her mind was telling her was true, she would probably be laughing at herself. Oh, how she wished she could laugh right now, to chuckle away her problems like leaves in the wind. If only, her insides, right now, felt like sawdust. “Ethan”‐ “Tasha”‐ It was the first time either of them had spoken, yet somehow they had chosen to speak at the exact same time. Maybe that was how in tune they really were. While she never recalled them actually finishing each other’s sentences, to Tasha at least, it had always felt as if Ethan was in her mind, as if she knew exactly what he was thinking, and she had little doubt he did too. It was always there. “Tasha, love, you go first.” Ethan said, nuzzling the side of neck. Like every time he touched her, she felt the left side of her neck burst into flames before settling into a dull spark when his lips moved on. She never got used to the feeling. Tasha had spent all of her adolescence not believing in a connection or feeling as such an even when she did, she never really wanted it anyway. Now she was berating herself for not wanting it, believing in it. She knew how foolish it was, but part of her couldn’t help but hope that if she had, she could have found Ethan earlier, and maybe the two of them wouldn’t be in this mess, stuck in a cell, knowing the next time they would leave, it would be to visit their death. She sighed, she felt troubled, but she knew Ethan would listen to her struggles. As selfish as it sounded, it was still true, he was still Ethan. “I’m sorry, you know.” she started, she heard him snicker behind her but she kept going. There was no stopping her, not today. “If there was any way to get you out of here, so only I would die, and you would live, I would use it. Even if it meant going back in time and never meeting you. Never talking to you or saying your name.” and as she said it, she meant every word. Because a world where Ethan was safe from her from everyone and everything, was better than a world where he would die for loving her. KA T NE AL L “Tasha, you know”‐ “No, Ethan, listen please love, I”‐ she started to cry again, God, what was with her today. She had never been this emotional in her life, not when her parents told her she couldn’t have a dog when she was six, not when her brother and sister‐in‐law died. She wiped away the traitor tears threatening her composure as she distractedly thought of how strange it was that everything to do with her mental health seemed to come back to Lucas and Moira. When Tasha thought she had smeared away all of her tears, she only started crying again, harder than before. Worried she might have scared off Ethan, she looked to him for reassurance. Seeing the worry, the love, in his eyes she tried to continue through her sobs. “Because I would much rather never meet you at all, as horrible as it sounds, than”‐ and here was where she broke down harder, but determined as she was, she only continued. “I mean, then I could… never hurt… you. Never use… you… like i… did… Everything that… has happened… to you in… the last… few months… is because of me. I asked for… your help. I got you locked up. I… I…” She had so much more to say to him, so much to beg for, but Tasha was interrupted by Ethan pulling her around to face him, then the feel of his lips on hers. As distraught as she was at this moment, she couldn’t help but be distracted by the feel of his smooth lips moving in sync with hers, fitting perfectly with hers as if they were made for each other. Like with every kiss, she couldn’t help but feel as if her and Ethan’s souls merged some. Sure there were times where it truly happened, as if she couldn’t tell the difference between her and Ethan, when they were making love, for instance, where the feeling was so intense, she thought she was going to collapse, but during times like this, it was if the two of them were trying hard to reach that level on a kiss alone. As if they were trying to broadcast their souls like a radio station, trying hard to get the other to so desperately believe what they are trying to say. She could almost feel what Ethan was trying to say to her. “Forget it, Tash. Don’t worry. I love you.” And although she realised it could have been her subconscious telling her what she so desperately needed to hear, she believed every single word of it. Frantic as she was to prove her forgiveness, to give so much more, she straddled his legs with hers, hauled her body as close as she could towards his. Their lips crashed together at an anxious pace now. Tasha felt as if his hands were everywhere, her back, her shoulders, her legs, her hips. She felt lightheaded already but she couldn’t finish this yet by passing out now. She owed Ethan so much still. Not just her body, or her mind, her heart. Her heart. OK so the aforementioned jobs. Hmmm Banner maker. Nothing to serious, just a chance to muck around & have fun, show how you see Tasha and Ethan. Seriously knock yourself out. Ok so short chapter today… sorry. Something COMPLETELY different too… kinda. This chapter will be from Ethan’s point of view. Let me know what you think by reviewing, like always. Enjoy. °°° Fears AL L Ethan didn’t know what to do. When it came to Tasha, he had never felt so confused. Come to think about it, everything happened by instinct – he never had to think about it. Now he felt as if he was trapped between a rock and a hard place. He had never seen Tasha, or anyone for that matter, so distraught and emotional. To say it left him disorderly was a bit of an understatement. Whenever he tried to comfort her, all it did was hurt her, which in turn hurt him when she pushed him away. It destroyed him to watch her. NE Ethan felt like he should seek help for her, Tasha’s emotional state had deteriorated that much, though he knew no‐one would care for her, the queen‐killer. It wasn’t as if she was crying all the time. That, he knew, he could handle. But it was the detachedness that killed him, how she would walk to the corner of a room, curl in a ball on the floor, and rock, eyes on the wall at all times. It was if she couldn’t face Ethan. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw her beautiful, ice‐blue eyes, or felt her hand brush along his back like she used to whenever she past him. At night she would go to bed, and coil up in a ball as far away from Ethan as she could get. T That’s when the tears started. KA Ethan wanted nothing more than to pull her against his chest, and hold her till the sun rose again, like they used to always do, in or out of the cells. To hold her tight enough as if it would protect her from the outside world. The first night she had cried though, she’d snapped when he reached for her. “No Ethan, don’t.” Those words hurt him more than if she’d slapped him. It killed him to see her so depressed, skulking around their room, not eating or talking, not doing anything. It killed him to see the playful side of her, the one that was never slow to joke around or tease or pull some sort of prank be swallowed up by the darkness within. How he longed for the times when he could wrap his arms around her or kiss her temple, do all little things, without her flinching, recoiling in her inner torment. He knew what was hurting her too. He had the problem figured out, yet with no solution in sight, and that killed him almost as much. How often in the past few days had he stayed up past midnight, begging with whoever was listening to help his love. To allow her to see the light in the darkness. He felt like he needed to know everything about what was plaguing her, drowning her emotions. He felt the same way about it that he did about strigoi. AL L Disgust, hate… Fear. He would be dead in under a week and the only thing he feared was his lover’s illness. And, oh, how he needed to know how to get rid of it. NE Whatever it was that was killing her, he prayed with all his heart and so much more that he would find a solution in time. He knew he didn’t have long left. °°° T Let me know what you think, or if you want more of Ethan’s thoughts by… REVIEWING. Saving Grace 43%
HI, thanks for coming back Shocker up ahead too, thought I’d warn you first, k? Saving Grace. AL L “Thank you again, Will.” I said, squeezing his hand that I had clasped in mine. The angel he was, he had come when I had asked, and insisted on us staying and waiting on a new battery rather than go back to his or my apartment, saying that “A car like yours wouldn’t last an hour in the pitch back night of Chicago.” To be honest I kind of agreed. So now we were huddled up in the back seat of my car, swathed in blankets he had managed to find in the trunk of his car, his arms wrapped around me as I did all my best not to shiver. “Jeez, Tamm, if you’d have told me I would have brought you clothes. I don’t exactly want some guy coming out here to fix your car’s battery, only to spend more time looking at you than the car.” He had joked. I had hit him. “Don’t worry about it, Tamm. Anytime, you know that.” “Well, thanks still, but you work, I mean how did you get off?” NE “Hmmm, well.” He paused to sink lower in the seat and grinned like a little kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. “I told Diane that my sexy girlfriend is going to be waiting, soaking wet and in minimal clothes, and to hell with some hospital class action or whatever.” Well that explained the creepy smile. T I swung my arm in a way that caused my hand to hit his shoulder in the exact same place that id hit him earlier. And though he swore it didn’t hurt, I swore I could see him wince every time he moved his arm. “Hey, if you told her that you’re going to,” that was when what he said fully sunk in. Girlfriend. KA He called me his girlfriend. It was all I had not to burst out into some pathetic, spontaneous dance. I suppose that’s what we were, but never before had he made reference to me like that. Whoa. “Tamra, hello? Are you there?” Followed by a soft rap on my forehead for good measure. “Oh, what, huh, sorry.” He only chuckled and said, “I think the man is here,” and pointed out the window to a man pulling up in a van between mine and Will’s car and hopping out. “Oh. Ok, hang on,” and started to get out, before pausing and pulling the blankets out with me. After a quick description of my car problem and asking for his attention more than once, I was finally given a new battery and a hefty bill for the services of a man who worked at half the speed it probably should have taken. When the van next to me took off with a final wave which I pointedly ignored, Will decided to take this as a cue to get out of the car. AL L Not paying much attention to anything but the engine, I didn’t notice him coming up behind me and wrapping me in his embrace, pressing small kisses to my left temple. “What, was that too much for you to take,” seeing the sheepish expression that dawned upon his face I giggled – seriously, giggled! I’m not six – and admitted that it was most definitely not an experience I would like to repeat either. I took the momentary pause in the conversation to turn around in his arms and stare intently at his face. ‘Girlfriend’, he called me his ‘girlfriend!’ NE “Will, when you, I mean when we were, in the car, I mean.” Oh shit. Yeah, nice one Tamra, real smooth. “Girlfriend, you called me your girlfriend.” Again, Tamra, smooth. While I probably looked baffled, confused and maybe a little excited, Will looked like a nervous wreck. “Oh, Tamra, I”‐ By now I was literally hanging on to the end of every word he was saying, as several hopeful scenarios ran through my head. ‘Yes, Tamra, I love you, I always have, I think you’re ‐ ’, or ‘Tamra, I want you to be my girlfriend. I love you, I”‐ his sigh brought me back to earth. “Tamm, I don’t, I mean”‐ he let out a frustrated sound and leaned back against the car. “What’s the point, I mean I say what I want to and you bolt and, shit, just Tamra”‐ KA T I kissed him. Screw my rules, screw everything else, I kissed him like I never would again. I poured everything I had, everything I was capable of, into that kiss. I wound my arms around his neck and clung to him for dear life, feeling very much relieved when he relaxed his tense posture and moulded himself into me, resting his hands against the small of my back. I didn’t want just sex or fun with him anymore. I wanted safety, comfort, consistency. A friend, a confidant, a lover. A relationship. I did everything I could to let him know in that one, heated kiss. A kiss that became an outpouring of our souls, a reassurance that the other wouldn’t disappear and that they were real. And yet it didn’t feel like enough. I wanted to talk to him, to ask basic things like how his day was, and I wanted him to ask the same of me. I wanted to be able to tell him anything and everything, and yet never be worried about how he would react. He pulled away, all too soon for my liking, and looked me in the eye, nuzzling his nose with mine. The electricity that ran through me made me think I was on fire, though if I was, I didn’t really care. “Tamra, you can walk away and I guess that’s my fault, but I love you and I don’t want to hide it anymore. Trying to ignore the giddy feelings coursing through me at a hundred miles an hour, I tried to think reasonably, because I knew there would be some rational part of me, however small it was, that would try and steer me away from what I wanted, but no‐one spoke up. I didn’t care about my sister’s past with him, I didn’t care about Alicia’s either. I cared about our future, and nothing else. “Will, I love you.” AL L 0_0 *gasps* well there you have it folks. Margaret Sullivan ENG 242 5/2/17 Critical Introduction This researched web anthology will include visual and textual examples of the concept of gender within women’s writing and modern literature, television, and comics. The need to explore the societal contradictions that other authors and writers reveal is definitely a personal importance but is also relevant to the subject gender itself. Although the concept of gender is extremely broad, it is necessary to express concern with societal expectations and breaking the unspoken barriers. To help formulate this analysis on gender, it will be divided into things like gender roles, issues, equality, identity, and stereotypes. Critical theory suggests that these concept are far too crucial for society to ignore. Not only does every person perceive gender in stunningly different ways, but many of those perspectives have created controversial topics and have created discussion among scholars. Not only is textual evidence of theses concept important, but also visual content like visual novels or comics can also show phenomenal examples of the list above. How female characters are depicted in comic books and visual texts as well as exploring gender within these different types of texts to also read and visually see these things come alive through art. Many people have dedicated their lives to this dire field of work, so that goes without saying that these types of approaches affect everyone very differently. These ideas are expanding rapidly and there are new theories, thoughts, and views every day. Every female lives a different life, but it is what similar things we go through that drive us to stick as one and stand together. There are many male authors who understand the struggle of living an everyday average life as a woman, who also offer interesting ideas to the table about an already interesting wide social subject. This is all immensely important to help mold a future generation to teach. History, Theory, and Meaning In The Critical Theory of Gender, Elia Ntaousani specifically focuses on gender as a social construct, and suggests that the word “gender” was initially meant to be used as a neutral term, rather than just “male or female”. A term that would eventually create tons of conversation. Ntaousani compares “gender” to “race” in terms of creating a word that can be considered unbiased. However, she also argues that “gender” has often times replaced the word “women” in different forms of literature. To clarify, she considers this a type of objectivity to women, becoming almost a substitute for the word itself, and shows how the misuse of ‘gender’ has the very opposite result of its intention. She explains further by saying that gender is no longer used for its political definition; it has been reinstated by others who are given deluded misinformation of the true usage of the word. She uses the word “class” to show how a term could have “analytical association”. She uses binaries to help interpret this concept, including very obvious things such as “feminine/masculine”, “nature/culture”, and “animal human”. “In other words, gender ’ did not manage to offer the possibility of a new world where the social relations between the sexes would be redesignated; its ‘ usage insists that the world of women is part of the world of men, created in and by it.” This is part of the history as gender as a social construction. There is very interesting sub-concept with gender that involves women in animated/live action movies, tv shows, video games, and comics. “Trinity Syndrome” refers to female characters who are very interesting and complicated, but most importantly have a lot of potential. However, the story surpasses this excellent character and the story virtually gives them nothing to do. This absolutely has to do with gender because typically there is a male protagonist; then an alluring female character is introduced with nothing but her personality (not really a “backstory”). A personality is an extremely important role in characters because that makes them who they are; it gives them something to identify with. However, when a character is loosely shown based on how they act, is this fair? Fictional and nonfictional characters must “deal” with this. A problematic example of this would be when females are categorized as loud, strong, or outspoken they are usually considered mean and rude. If this were a male character being described as such, he would be considered to be strong while having leadership characteristics. In an article titled We’re Losing All our Strong Female Characters to Trinity Syndrome by Tasha Robinson, she gives strong examples from commonly-known movies to help others understand her claim. In the beginning of this text, she gives credit to the people who seemingly care enough to push forward a strong female lead in many different things. She talks about the importance of having a female character and how there has been a “cultural push” to have female characters become confident and capable, and also starring a main role. The author of this article suggests an interesting outlook on how the term “strong female character” can actually be almost against what it is literally intending to say. That expression has been dissected and shown to do more harm than good in a lot of different ways. In a great read titled “I hate Strong Female Characters” by Sophia Mcdougall, although it seems misleading, the very first few lines are incredibly accurate. “Sherlock Holmes gets to be brilliant, solitary, abrasive, Bohemian, whimsical, brave, sad, manipulative, neurotic, vain, untidy, fastidious, artistic, courteous, rude, a polymath genius. Female characters get to be Strong.” She shows that men characters can have an infinite amount of synonyms describing them, and female characters merely get “strong”. She says that typically, men characters are assumed to be strong due to the societal thoughts on masculinity. The Trinity Syndrome is “more than a marketing term than a meaningful goal”. Visual Examples Currently in this era, there are countless examples that could be used to help further define gender and its importance in literature of all forms. Starfire, a character originally from the famous comic “Teen Titans” is an absolutely great example of a feminist icon in comics. From the very moment Starfire was a mere thought, she was sexualized. She is initially introduced as a sexy alien who is extremely naive and culturally unaware with a small hint of anger. She has been described as a “male fantasy.” On the other hand, once the audience actually has a chance to read, see, and watch Starfire’s actions and dialogue, she becomes so much more than just that. In the animated TV show version of Teen Titans, Starfire’s stories come to life and her character is able to express her true self and the way she was written way more effectively. Regardless, in either of those ways, the audience progressively sees through stories and character development that Starfire is arguable the strongest female superhero. Not to say she is a “strong female lead” but she proves her mental and physical strength to not only her team, but the readers as well. Starfire is proven to be physically strongest out of her entire team, thanks to her super strength alien powers. Being mentally strong is a large portion of Starfire’s entire character and backstory; the women of her planet were usually captured and chosen to live out their days as servants. In multiple different universes of the Teen Titans, Starfire eventually becomes the leader of the Teen Titans. This is remarkably relevant to gender because when one thinks of a “strong character” a common thought is frequently something like “Superman” or “The Hulk”-- two very masculine characters. Starfire shatters our culture’s notion that women should be submissive, fragile, or perhaps simply not as strong as other characters. She is not pure or innocent; she embraces her sexuality and gender without ever having to distinctly say it through confident dialogue and actions.
