RE: CORPORATE DONATION APPEAL FOR DEVINE MERCY BOYS HOME, KEPONG KUALA
LUMPUR.
Greetings from the Divine Mercy Boys' Home in Kepong Bahru, Kuala Lumpur. We are located not far from Jesus Caritas
Church in Kepong.

Our home has been in operation since December 2009, offering shelter to underprivileged
Children. The State Council of Wilayah Perseketuan, Society of St.Vincent de Paul, Malaysia has been instrumental in the
setting up and financing of this Home. The outgoings for the last year have been around RM 75,000.
As President of The State Council of Wilayah Persekutuan, I am now appealing to Corporate Donors to come forward
and help sustain this Home. Thus, this appeal to you is in earnest, considering that your contribution will help determine the
future of these underprivileged children.
We are enclosing a brochure that explains the formation and rationale in setting up this HOME, together with some
photographs. We therefore seek your kind generosity to help us give these children a chance at life.

Divine Mercy Boys’ Home needs help to fund
school expenses

IT WAS a mid-morning during the school holidays, and the boys at the Divine Mercy Boys’ Home in Kepong Baru,
Kuala Lumpur were watching television when the StarMetro team walked in.
They looked undisturbed by our presence, yet they were curious to know who the strangers were.
“Come and introduce yourselves to our visitors today, boys,” said home’s management committee chairman Peter
Moses.
Without wasting any time, the boys took their turn to shake hands, and introduce themselves to their visitors.

Lessons to learn: The boys paying attention to the teacher.

Moses said the home, which was under the auspices of the National Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP), started
in late 2007 with nine boys. Now it has 17 boys between the ages of seven and 13.
While some are orphans, some are from broken homes or with single mothers.
“Our focus has been education, and there has been a tremendous improvement in exam results since the boys
joined the home.
“We attribute it to the new environment, good food, tuition, supervision, and love and care,” he said, as he gave us a
tour of the home.
The home has a room with bunk beds for the boys, a kitchen and dining area, a TV room, store room, and an office.
In the kitchen, a cook was busy making lunch for the day, while another staff member was in the office.
The centre operates with two house mothers, two house masters and a cook, with a total expense of RM5,000.
Combined with utility bills, and other expenses, the total expenditure for the centre is about RM7,500 a month.
“Up to September 2010, we were getting support from the state council but since then we have been sustaining
ourselves.
“We also get a lot of donations of food and provisions from private companies, parishioners from churches and even
residents in the area. It’s been a blessing in that area,” said Moses, adding that the home still needed cash to
sustain the remuneration of manpower, and the boys’ school expenses.
Some of the home’s efforts to generate cash to run the home include selling of the Divine Mercy mugs and
appealing to corporate companies for donations.
“After Easter, which falls on April 24, we are launching the Child Expense Adoption programme, whereby a
company or individual can offer to sponsor a child’s expense for a said period of time,” he said.
Interested individuals or parties can choose to sponsor for six months, 12 months or a longer period.
Currently, the home is also planning on some renovations works to build a study room as the current space is too
small and cramped. The proposed room would be built at an open space within the compound of the home.
“We are hoping on the generosity of people for the home,” he said.
