Good News!
Before we get into what’s been happening lately
with YFC Deaf Teen Quest- we want to share some
great news regarding our young family: Baby
number 2 is due sometime around May 22, 2014!
We are totally thrilled that our family is
expanding, but have begun to realize the
implications on our priorities as we balance
family and ministry. It looks like for the time
being, I (Matthew) will be doing most of my
traveling alone, for ministry and work.
On our most recent trip to Washington DC and
York, PA, we brought our soon-to-be 3 year old
(on 11/17) with us. Little Matthew Jr.
accompanied us as rode planes, trains, DC metro,
cabs, and a rental car. It was a challenge, for
sure, and we would have to meet the needs of a
toddler while trying to satisfy work/ministry
duties. Sometimes we succeeded, sometimes we
didn’t. So, while we are thrilled about our
family, we will be adjusting for sure. We are
excited what the future holds for us.

Central and Eastern States
Regional Conferences
We wrapped up our tour of YFC Regional
Conferences. It was great to connect with
our “hearing family.” We have a room in the
house and a place at the table with such a
great organization. And it makes it much
easier for our YFC DTQ staff/volunteers to
travel to these regional events. We focused
on “Better Together” as we know we cannot do
this alone. Across the nation, this has been
a focus for DTQ, doing the 6 RMA’s
(relational ministry actions) in teams
together... Because it’s done better
together. Already, we have begun
preparations for next year’s Regional
Conferences to expand our support systems
across the nation for YFC DTQ staff and
volunteers.

National News
CCD 20th
Anniversary
Christ’s Church
of the Deaf
(Cincy) was where
I got my start.
Recently, I was
able to share the
message during
the 20th
anniversary of
the church. It
was great to see
so many people
who have played a
pivotal role (big
or small) for the
lasting impact
this church has
made. For video,

Theological
Framework/online
training

Mission Frontiers
and Evolve
Magazine

I had the honor
of joining a
group of men who
already had their
doctorate or were
in the process of
completing their
doctorate: Rick
McClain, Mike
VanZant, Mike
Manna, Bob Ayres.
We had an intense
week of exploring
the most
effective way for
training leaders
across the
mission. Having
the least amount
of education at
the table, I
loved learning
how to implement
effective
training methods.

Two publications
have asked me
(Matt) to write
articles.
Mission Frontiers
has allowed me to
write about my
experience as a
teenager and how
a guy named Todd
made a huge
impact on my
life. Evolve
magazine is a
publication
focusing on
unique
individuals in
Crossfit. I’ve
used this
platform to share
with others about
DTQ.

Deaf Missions
In December, I am
excited to teach
a course in
“Incarnational
Ministry” at the
Deaf Missions
Training Center
in Council
Bluffs, Iowa. We
love our friends
at Deaf Missions
and the
partnership we
share. In
addition, I will
also be a
messenger during
Deaf Missions
“Deaf Christian
Leaders
Conference” from
April 23-26:

GROWgroup
Each week, in addition to our
national responsibilities, we
continue to do what we LOVE to do:
hang out with Deaf teenagers.
There was a facebook post recently
that I have been dwelling on:
“Every young person needs a place
to belong and discover.” What
started out as 3 Deaf teenagers I
been meeting with has now turned
into a GROWgroup of 12 in 2 months.
This group meets regularly and
also has a monthly club where they
have been consistent in inviting
their friends. We recently spent
time on the Go-Kart track and
played laser tag. Developing a
healthy peer group where everyone
feels they belong and discover is a
major priority in what we do.
Recently, out of curiosity, I reset
the odometer to see how many miles
I drove to gather teens for
GROWgroup: 108.6 miles was the
final tally. But we love the time
together to chat in the car. Check
us out on facebook to see all the
videos we have made!

Thank You
We love what we do. And this is what we do: we raise up teams of staff and volunteers to
come alongside Deaf Teenagers as a caring Christian adult willing to invest in their
lives. And we depend on generous donations of all kinds. Want to partner in this
transformational ministry?
