1.0

SCOPE AND PURPOSE
Workers may be at risk of crushing injuries due to contact with falling or rolling
objects; as well as punctures from sharp objects. Additional hazards include contact
with but not limted to:
A) Static electricity.
B) Molten metals.
C) Hot surfaces.
D) Chemicals.
E) Wet or slippery surfaces.
Injuries may be prevented by the use of appropriate footwear. Safety footwear is
fitted with protective devices to protect the wearer from injuries which could arise
through accidents. The purpose of this specification is selection & ordering of the
safety footwear in the company.

3.0

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
3.1 Construction:
Three types of safety footwear have been defined for use in KNPC as per details
given below:A – Executive Safety Shoe:
Applicable for all employees at Sr. Level & above rank.
B - Safety Boot:
Applicable for all other KNPC employees.
C - Woman Safety Shoe:
Applicable for all women employees in the company.
Detailed typical construction of safety footwear is shown below.

3.2 Classification:
The safety footwear (shoes and boots) made from leather categorized as Class I
(BS EN ISO 20345:2011, or latest ) shall be supplied by the vendor.
3.3 Requirements of the Safety Shoes, safety boots, women safety shoes:
The safety footwear shall conform to BS EN ISO 20345:2011 or (latest), basic
requirements and additional requirements as mentioned in the table for the products
being offered.

3.4 Marking:
Each footwear shall be clearly and permanently marked, by embossing or branding,
with the following:
a)

Manufacturer’s identification mark

Year and quarter or month of manufacturer

The number and year of this Standard i.e. EN ISO 20345:2011

f)

The symbol / category indicating protection provided. The minimum
requirement for shoes that are conforming to EN ISO 20345:2011 or (latest),
is S3 SRC including resistance to hot contact.

3.5 Information to be supplied:
At the time of supply, each pair of safety footwear shall be furnished with information
in English as follows:
a) Name and full address of the manufacturer and/or his authorized
representative;
b) Notified body involved in type examination; approval details.
c) Number and year of the standard;
d) Explanation of any pictograms, markings and levels of performance. A basic
explanation of the tests that have been applied to the footwear, if
applicable.
e) Any deviations from, or non compliance with these specifications shall be
clearly stated, with reasons, by the manufacturer when submitting bid. If list of
deviations is not submitted, the offer will immediately be rejected.
f) Instruction for use;
1) Tests to be carried out by the wearer before use, if required;
2) Fitting; how to put on and take off the footwear, if relevant;
3) Application; basic information on possible uses and, where detailed
information is given, the source;
4) Limitations of use (e.g. temperature range, etc.);
5) Instructions for storage and maintenance, with maximum periods
between maintenance checks;
6) Instructions for cleaning and/or decontamination;
7) Obsolescence deadline or period of obsolescence;
8) If appropriate, warnings against problems likely to be encountered
(modifications can invalidate the type approval, e.g. orthopedic footwear);
9) If helpful, additional illustrations, part numbers etc.

4.0 REQUIREMENT & ELIGIBILITY
The Safety footwear shall be used by all personnel (KNPC employees, seconded
employees, contractor workers and visitors) while entering/ working in restricted
areas such as process units, construction areas, warehouse, workshops, tank farm
areas etc at all KNPC sites. In addition, where there is a possibility of injury to feet
identified through a risk assessment, use of safety footwear shall be made
mandatory.

6.0 SIZE OF THE SHOES
For the purpose of ordering, EN system shall be followed. Such range of sizes is
mentioned in the table below along with comparison of other standards of shoe sizes:
