Bjorn Rye (1942-1998)
Born in Los Angeles, California in 1942, Rye was raised in Utah and
traveled widely in his youth. He studied art history and creative writing
at Columbia University with his BA achieved in 1973, and received an MA
at New York City College in 1974. The writer of several novels, he
returned to the Santa Barbara, California in 1989 and painted landscapes
for sell-out shows in New York City, San Francisco, and Santa Barbara in
1997 and 1998, the year he died.

Kris Buck
I fell in love with 'plein air' painting because it allowed me to be in beautiful
places and to focus on the moment. I strive to have the viewer want to be in that
place in the painting and so I tend to paint vignettes instead of vast panoramas.
I have been exhibiting award-winning pastel and oil paintings since 2002. Born
and raised in Santa Barbara, I am a member of the Santa Barbara Art
Association. My work is exhibited in major art festivals in southern California and
continuously at Gallery Los Olivos in Los Olivos

Laurie Macmillan
In 2002 I began working with clay, throwing shapes, altering surfaces and experimenting with glazes. Two
years later I discovered that painting allowed me to work more spontaneously, with better control of my
color palette. My love of texture transferred from clay to canvas. Rather than realistically recreating the
natural and geological features that have always fascinated me, I paint my response to them.
After losing our home to a wildfire in 2008, and then buying a home with a beautiful garden, I realized that
my interest in geology and the natural world is really about the inevitability of change. Geology is the study
of how the earth uplifts and erodes, and plants evolve every day. Whatever you think you have, it'll be gone
someday, and whatever you don't like, that will go too.
