Tifton Women Arrested for Aggravated Identity Fraud
An investigation conducted by the Georgia State Board of
Workers’ Compensation’s Enforcement Division has led to the
arrest of Bertha Gutierrez - Martinez. According to
Enforcement Division Director Stan Bexley, Bertha Gutierrez
– Martinez, was arrested on Thursday, March 03, 2016, and
transported to the Tift County Detention Center where she has
been charged with 1 (one) felony count of Aggravated Identity
Fraud, and 1 (one) felony count of Identity Fraud, 1 (one)
felony count of providing false statements and fraudulent
documents to the State, and 1 (one) count of making false and
misleading statements in order to obtain workers’
The Enforcement Division’s investigation alleges that Bertha Gutierrez – Martinez
provided her employer a social security number that did not belong to her in order to
obtain employment. Subsequently, Martinez sustained a work-related injury and filed a
workers’ compensation claim for benefits using the fraudulent social security number.
Based on evidence obtained during the investigation it was determined that the social
security number Martinez used was assigned to a California man, now deceased.
Martinez also fraudulently completed State and Federal Tax Withholding documents
using the fraudulent social security number.
