Elegant Southwest Home Plans For Your Dream Home
Southwest living is home to a vast variety of beautiful breathtaking
landscapes. From gorgeous desert sunsets to snow caps on top of the
enormous mountain ranges and everything in between it is no wonder so
many people who visit this great area fall in love with it and look to relocate
to this region.
Here in Southern Utah we are home to about every southwest landscape
imaginable. In fact, you can go from the High Deserts sage brush, sand and
cactus of 2,500 feet elevation to luscious grassy mountain meadows
surrounded by tall pines and quaky aspens tipping 10,000 feet elevation in
less than 45 minutes. The beauty of this is spectacular but goes to show you
that the southwest is truly an extreme country made for extreme living.
It is pretty safe to say that the styles of homes in the 45 minutes of
elevation change differ quite drastically.
Cabin style homes on the mountain are built to handle the cold, snowy
winter weather while in the same sense homes in the high desert elevations
are more equipped for the dry hot summer months that can sometimes last
for five or six months at a time. There is a place in between the extreme
heat and the extreme cold that people often neglect to address and that is
the mid-range southwest elevations or as I like to call it the hybrid region.
These hybrid region experiences extremities of both the high desert and the
mountain regions so it is unique in the fact that homes in this region must
be well equipped to deal with both the heat extremities as well as the cold.
The uniqueness of being able to experience both the colder winter months as
well as the hot summer months calls for a breathtaking hybrid type
southwest style home. Spanish style villas with high pitched metal roofs
rather than low sloped tile roofs, central air conditioning also equipped with
a beautiful wood burning stove or fireplace as the center focus piece of the
room, and large covered porches to protect from the heat of the summer
and the snow and ice of the winter are some examples of how this region
has distinctly modified the traditional southwest style home. It would be
unthinkable to build a cabin in the hot high desert terrain just as it is as
much unreasonable to think of building a low slope tile roof home in the
mountains. The hybrid region allows for a combination of both worlds, so
long as some modifications to traditional southwest plans are taken into
This region is a very beautiful place to live and offers an ever changing
scenery that can only be found in these special hybrid areas. Many elegant
southwest homes have been built in this hybrid region of Utah. From
traditional log cabin homes to a Santa Fe style bungalow or a Spanish Style
villa and even a southwest ranch style home anything goes so long as you
remember to insulate well, plan for both extremely cold months as well as
extremely hot months and have fun, after all this is your dream home and it
should be a fun journey designing and building your home.
