OFFICE OF THE PROVOST AND DEAN OF FACULTIES

January 24, 2011

Colleagues:
On behalf of the members of the Law School Dean Search Committee, I am pleased to announce that five
semifinalists will visit Boston College during the week of February 7-11 for interviews with the Law School
community. The semifinalists and their current institutional affiliations and positions are:
Michele Goodwin, University of Minnesota
Everett Fraser Chair in Law; Professor of Medicine, School of Medicine;
Professor of Public Health, School of Public Health
Russell Osgood, Grinnell College
Professor of History and Political Science
James Repetti, Boston College
William J. Kenealy, S.J. Professor of Law; Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Vincent Rougeau, University of Notre Dame
Professor of Law
Robert Schapiro, Emory University
Professor of Law; Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
Semifinalists were selected after the Search Committee met with fifteen outstanding candidates over the
course of three full days. During their visits, the semifinalists will meet with key individuals at the
University and the Law School, including Law School faculty, staff, students, alumni, and Advancement.
The detailed schedule for each visit will be sent to members of the Law School community; for alumni who
do not reside in the Boston area, the meeting with alumni will be webcast and detailed instructions will
follow. After each visit, individual members of the Law School community are invited to share their
thoughts with the Search Committee and/or write signed letters to me.
It is the Committee's expectation that after all semifinalist interviews, the Committee will identify three
finalists whose names will be forwarded to the President's Office. Those individuals will return to meet with
Fr. Leahy. Their names will be shared with the Law School community, at which point individual signed
letters from faculty, students, staff, and alumni may be sent either to the President or me.
The Search Committee is delighted to present this slate of exceptionally talented individuals, and we look
forward to welcoming them back to Boston College. I am grateful to the members of the Search Committee
for their tremendous efforts on behalf of, and their dedication to, Boston College and its Law School.
Sincerely,

Cutberto Garza
