2 TO 3 OUNCES WORSTED WEIGHT YARN
16” CIRCULAR NEEDLE – BETWEEN #5 & #8 (TO SUIT GAUGE)
FOUR SOCK NEEDLES OF SAME SIZE
CAST ON 90st onto circular needle. Join, being careful not to twist. Knit 10 rounds
for the border lining/hem. This is a place to place a pattern, such as a Scottish
check.
Increase suddenly to 120sts. K3, M1 around for average tam; K2, M1 around for a
monster. Continue for 25 rounds (about 3½”) on about 120sts, or 32 rounds
(about 4½”) on 135 sts, or any number of sts divisible by seven – seven blocks
of 17 or 19 sts respectively.
Decrease 7sts evenly spaced around (K15, K2tog, or K17, K2tog, around) & work 1
round plain. Alternate these two rounds, decreasing 7 by 7 until 49sts remain.
Decrease every round to last 7sts then fasten off.
