WHO WE ARE
Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted ( established in 1927,
formerly known as the prestigious Petrus Ky High School ) is a highly selective school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is known as one of the top
schools in the whole country for its outstanding teaching quality and students’ leadership and pioneering spirit. Throughout the school’s long history,
Le Hong Phong has produced many generations of eminent leaders, teachers, writers, revolutionaries, economists, scientists and artists, especially:
Truong Tan Sang—the current President of Vietnam.
Nguyen Minh Triet—the former President of Vietnam from 2006 to
2011.
Huynh Tan Phat—a South Vietnamese politician and revolutionary.
Tran Van On—a national hero in the Vietnam War.
Nguyen Thai Binh—a national hero in the Vietnam War.
In order to win a place at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted,
students must be categorized “Excellent” in their middle school years and
must score extremely high on the National High School Entrance Examination (including tests in Mathematics, Vietnamese Literature, English and one
specialized subject). Le Hong Phong’s passing grades are the highest among
all high schools in Southern Vietnam. The acceptance rates in the past three
years are:
Class of 2013: 21,36%.
Class of 2014: 20.14%.
Class of 2015: 13.3%.
The current school enrollment is 2,022 students in three grades
from grade 10 to grade 12. Vietnamese is the language of instruction and
all students are required to learn English, Chinese, or French as a second
language.
Besides, Le Hong Phong has given birth to the prestigious 30th of
April Olympiad for grade 10 and 11. Since 1995, Le Hong Phong has also
been selected as the testing center for the Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s Australian National Chemistry Quiz.
