THE ASCLEPIAN VOICE

March 27, 2014
by Nadine Sameon
I
n preparation for the incoming
surgical missions this summer,
the Order of Asclepius held a
circumcision seminar and workshop
at Roxas Hall this March 27, 2014,
featuring Dr. Anastacio Rufon of
Batch 11 as the guest speaker.
Aptly named "Making the Cut", the
activity aimed to enhance the practical skills of the members in order to
be better health care providers in future missions. The training especially
focused on the learning experience of
members who did not have any prior
exposure to circumcisions.
“You will never look at the microphone the same
way again.” - Dr. Rufon with his makeshift model
Majority of the Batch 37 were eager and excited
to perform their first circumcision
The seminar consisted of a lecture on
the circumcision procedure and maintaining asepsis, followed by a workshop.
The workshop was as enjoyable as it
was educative. Using chicken thighs
and drumsticks, the participants practiced anesthetizing, cutting and suturing under the careful guidance of Dr.
Rufon.
Afterwards, the certificate and token
of appreciation were given by GLA
Angeli Nicole Portigo, SLA Denise
Granada, and JMA Argee Alonsabe.
The newly honed skills of the members will be immediately put to use
this March 29, 2014, in the Medical/
Surgical/Dental Mission that will be
held at Estancia, Iloilo.
It may be summertime already but the
Order of Asclepius never stops striving
for excellence in service. #
