Progress for Child
and Family Centre
The foundations have
been laid and walls
erected for the Palmerston
Child and Family Centre
Palmerston is the fastest
growing region in the
Territory and pouring of
the concrete slab is literally
laying the foundations for
improved family services in
the Palmerston region.

A common theme I hear from
Palmerston families is the
shortage of childcare places
so the extra 50 places in this
new centre will be welcomed
by the community.
I will continue to keep you
updated as this project
progresses at the Palmerston
Community Health Precinct
in Farrar.

Welcome to our newest
candidate for Team
Palmerston, Nathan
Barrett. It is important to
have a team of strong
leaders for the future of
Palmerston.

New Palmerston Water Park shade
The Palmerston Water
Park has received a
makeover ahead of the
school holidays with the
Government installing
new shade structures.

I have visited the park to
view these shade cloths
and they have made a
significant improvement to
the Palmerston Water Park.

comfortable day out for
mums and dads.

As a Local Member I
have received a lot of
community feedback about
the Palmerston Water Park
and the need for sufficient

shade, people just aren’t
prepared to spend the day
in the sun and risk serious
burns.

This is just another example
of where the Government is
delivering for Palmerston.

The lack of shade has been
a common complaint for
families since the Water
Park opened, with concerns
over their children’s safety in
the harsh sun.
These shade shelters allow
our children to cool off
safely and will mean a more

Focus on Family & Community Safety

I am very passionate about
community safety and seeing
results for crime lowering in
our local community.
A number of factors have
contributed to this, together
with bills introduced by this
government and passed in
Parliament in the past 12
months, including:
• Criminal Code
Amendment (Assaults on
Workers) Bill 2012
• Serious Sex Offenders
Bill 2013

• Alcohol Mandatory
Treatment Bill 2013

• Alcohol Protection Orders
Bill 2013
An interactive website has
been established which
shows statistics that you can
access each month online
to find out what most recent
crime
statistics
are in
their local
community. 2,503

Government is open and
transparent for the people of
the Northern Territory.

The website shows house
break-ins in Palmerston are
down 44% and community
break-ins cut by 36%. You

Like many Palmerston

which is a priority for

SENIORS ADVISORY COUNCIL FORMED

Territory seniors will have
the opportunity to have
their say as part of a
newly formed Minister’s
Advisory Council on Senior
Territorians (MAC-ST).
Expressions of interest
were sought for six
positions on the council.
Seniors have so much to
offer the community and
the advice they provide
to the government will be

extremely valued

The council will provide
high level and strategic
advice to government as
well as deliver effective
links between government
and the seniors community
to improve policy outcomes.
The Government is excited
to have this invaluable voice
which will offer solutions
to topics affecting senior
Territorians.

MAC-ST will enable key
stakeholders to study and
discuss issues relevant to
the social, economic and
civic life of Territory seniors.
Our seniors are very
much respected in the
community.
Their advice will greatly
assist with the provision of
better services and better
facilities for the seniors of
Palmerston.

Doubling of Rosebery Pre-School
I am delighted to
announce Rosebery
Pre-School will receive
much needed upgrades,
which will allow Rosebery
Pre-School to double its
capacity for local families.
I have a very close working
relationship with local
pre-schools and the need
for extra capacity has
been high on my agenda.
Rosebery Pre-School will be
able to educate double the
amount of students after a
$1.2 million expansion that
will see an extra 44 places,
additional play facilities and
improved landscaping.
One of my first actions as
Education Minister was
to audit the infrastructure
needs of Territory schools
and it was clear the
greatest need was in the
growth area of Palmerston.
It is clear this project is well

over due and will have a
positive flow-on effect for
surrounding areas.

The demand for services
in Palmerston will continue
to grow with the Northern
Territory Government fasttracking land release for
residential development in
the region.
It is anticipated this project
will be completed and
opened for enrolments by
the second semester 2015.

Team Palmerston’s Nathan
Barrett and I announcing
Rosebery Pre-School will
receive upgrades to double its
current capacity.

Lodge an
Advance Personal
Plan for your
future piece
of mind
Territorians can now
lodge an Advance
Personal Plan (APP)
to ensure their health,
financial and lifestyle
wishes are heard and
respected in the future.
An APP operates like a
“living will” and comes into
effect when a person has
lost their decision-making
capacity from illness,
accident or otherwise.
The APP can be lodged
with the Office of the
Public Trustee, so it can
be quickly located when
needed, and included on
your eHealth record.
