USMC  Volunteers  to  Build  a  Home  this  Saturday
Lubbock  Habitat  for  Humanity  hosts  volunteers  from  the  Marine  Corps

[LUBBOCK,  Texas]  (August  5,  2013) - This  Saturday,  September  7,  volunteers
from  the  Marine  Corps  will  be  documenting  their  experience  building  a  home
with  Lubbock  Habitat  for  Humanity  from  9:00  am  to  4:00  pm  at  2201  Duke  Street.
The  volunteer  group  will  be  comprised  of  current  officers  and  new  recruits  from
the  Lubbock  area.  This  day  of  service  will  be  one  of  the  first  experiences  for  the
new  recruits  before  heading  to  boot  camp.  Recruits  will  finish  framing,  brace
trusses  and  raise  foam  board  on  the  home.

Sergeant  Christopher  Lucas  became  the  Station  Commander  for  the  Lubbock
recruiting  office  10  months  ago.  Lucas  looks  to  teach  new  recruits  that
philanthropy  is  an  important  aspect  of  military  service.  “We  want  to  show
people  that  we’re  a  lot  more  than  just  fighters,”  he  said.

This  group  will  be  one  of  several  from  the  community  to  have  a  hand  in  building
the  127th  and  final  home  in  the  Habitat  subdivision.  The  home  finishes  a  project
that  began  over  26  years  ago.
The  entire  experience  will  be  captured  for  an  upcoming  tribute  to  the  USMC.
Volunteers  are  scheduled  for  two  shifts,  the  first  working  from  9:00am  to
12:00pm  and  the  second  from  1:00pm  to  4:00pm.  The  construction  site  is  located
at  2201  Duke  Street,  Lubbock,  Texas  79415.
