Career Prep:
The Class of 2015 is offering a unique opportunity for you on January 28th and 29th, partnering
with The Class of 1975/Staying Connected Initiative. Get the chance to raise money for a
charity/philanthropy you support and get coaching, mock interviews, and resume reviews at
the same time! There are individual and group sessions below for which you'll be entered in a
drawing to have one of two ($250 and $100) donations made to a W&M-recognized student
service organization or a philanthropy/charity that a W&M student service organization
supports. Register here to attend any of the events! And click here to look at the Facebook
event to see who else is going! Below are the descriptions of each session available to you
and all your friends (and all of their friends .... and .....).

Descriptions of each event:
All students who attend any of these sessions will also be able to enter that same drawing to
have one of two ($250 and $100) donations made to a W&M-recognized student service
organization or a philanthropy/charity that a W&M-recognized student service organization
supports.

Center James Room.
As you look for internships, summer jobs or full-time employment, what will set you apart from
other candidates? Gain special insights from Bruce Knight, a speaker who not only has been
hiring students for many years but has been doing many mock interviews on campus for the
past two. Hear the key things he’s seen employers looking for and how you can differentiate
yourself in an employer’s eyes.

Put Your Future Personal Finance Plan in Place Now, January 28, 5:00 - 5:50 pm in the
Sadler Center James Room.
Learn about the different facets of personal finance post-graduation ranging from investment
and savings strategies to how to plan for retirement starting at age 22! It may sound excessive
to think about this now, but it will certainly prove its worth very quickly. Hear from Mr. Richard
Ambler about financial forward thinking and get to know your W&M Alums.

So You Want to Work with People? January 29, 4 – 4:50 pm, Sadler Center Tidewater B
There are lots of career fields where you can use your passion for helping people. This session
will help you explore the skill profiles you’d want to build to find success in Non Profit, Human

Resources or Higher Ed/Student Affairs fields with an alum, Van Black, who has worked in all
three. Come discuss the similarities and differences plus the unique attributes of each career
option. See how you might apply both your interest in people with your chosen studies in one or
more of these fields.

“Ask Not” presents: The State of National Service and Where You Fit In, January 29, 55:50 pm in the Sadler Center Tidewater B
Students will explore through a facilitated discussion the state of National Service in our country.
Students will engage with written pieces such as Gen. McCrystal’s “Securing the American
Character”, analyze trends in Civic Engagement and discuss the pros and cons of committing a
year to National Service before, after or during their undergraduate years. Brianna Buch and
other Ask Not students will challenge you to understand how Service and Civic Engagement
can fit in to your future aspirations.

Want some extra practice Networking?
January 29, 6:30 - 8 pm in the Sadler Center Tidewater B
Whether it's to help you prep for the Jan. 30 Career Fair or for future internship and job
interviews, getting the chance to meet Alumni from across Virginia (and beyond) who had many
different majors and have worked in many different careers is a valuable experience to have
under your belt. It’s informal, casual, low key.
