24-25 September 2015 The First International TransLingua Conference The Institute of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics and the Department of English of Kazimierz Wielki University Bydgoszcz, Poland are pleased to launch a Call for Papers for the 2015 Translingua Conference. PLENARY SPEAKERS Prof. Juliane House, University of Hamburg Prof. Zoltán Kövecses, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest TRANSLINGUA In the age of globalization and growing cultural homogenization, in the age of migration and increasing intercultural dependencies, in the world deeply divided as a result of cultural differences and in the context of the ongoing efforts to preserve regional and national traditions and identities, the issues of language and translation are absolutely vital. At the heart of these complex, intercultural interactions are various types of agents, intermediaries and mediators, including translators and interpreters, persons responsible for the promotion of culture, as well as scholars preoccupied with the study of language, researchers exploring the role of translation and academics investigating intercultural communication. The aim of this conference is thus to bring together representatives of various academic disciplines and diverse fields of expertise to investigate the following areas which will be organized around the following thematic panels: THEMATIC PANELS LANGUAGE, TRANSLATION AND COGNITION  Cognitive linguistics from a cross-cultural perspective  Metaphor and metonymy, especially in the local/global context  Ethnolinguistics, Cognitive sociolinguistics GLOBALIZATION, GLOCALIZATION, TRAVEL AND MIGRATION  Language and translation in the context of globalization  Language, translation and the phenomenon of glocalization  Language, translation, migration, emigration and diasporas  Language, translation in the context of travel and tourism  Translation and interpreting for Polish migrant communities  The practice of community interpreting in Poland and abroad LOCAL AND REGIONAL LANGUAGES AND IDENTITIES  Regional and national heritage from a linguistic angle  Local and regional identities from a linguistic viewpoint  Local dialects, urban and rural dialects, world’s Englishes TRANSLATION, LITERATURE AND HISTORY  Creating the image of culture abroad through language and translation  Literary translation as a way of promoting national culture abroad  English-Polish and Polish-English literary translation  The history of translation and interpreting in Poland TECHNOLOGY, LOCALIZATION, HUMAN-MACHINE INTERACTIONS  Language, translation and technology  Working with CAT tools and MT  Website localization, creating one’s image on the Internet  Crowdsourcing and translation, amateur translation ABSTRACT SUBMISSION Papers will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation followed by 10 minutes for discussion. The proposals including the following information:  name of author,  affiliation,  email address,  a 300-word abstract,  a brief bionote (up to 100 words) should be submitted to: translingua2015@gmail.com by 30 April 2015. The language of the conference is English. FEES For formal reasons, there is no conference fee as such. However, the participants are required to cover the cost of meals, coffee-breaks and post-conference publication which is €100 (400 PLN for Polish residents) and should be transferred to the following bank account with a note TRANSLINGUA CONFERENCE, the name and surname of the participant and the details of the institution to which the invoice is to be issued.
