About I-act:
Established in Alexandria in 2004, I-act works in the fields of Arts and Culture with using art as a
tool for social development. I-act is supported by Sida (Swedish International Development
Agency) and is a member of TAMASI collective, which is composed of 11 Arab performing arts
organizations from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. TAMASI members are diverse and
experienced organizations, supporting artistic excellence, embodying a firm commitment and
strong artistic vision for arts and culture as a pivotal contributor to the achievement of social and
political justice. In 2012, I-act has established the “Teatro Eskendria”, which is an arts space and
social hub in Alexandria. The space combines a dual entity of a café and cultural centre. It is a
multi-purpose space including indoors and outdoors areas with non-traditional places for running
the following activities: Training workshops for adults and children, small scale music and theatre
performances and film screenings.
Job description:
Contributing to the planning and coordination of the monthly cultural programme of
Teatro Eskendria under the supervision of the programme manager;
Assisting in the administrative and logistical organization and coordination of the annual
“Backstreet Festival” organised by I-act and hosted by Teatro Eskendria;
Responsible for the online promotion of the events using social media tools (facebook,
twitter, ning…etc); this task includes input generation, follow up and updates;
Contributing to updating the cultural content on the venues website as well as the regular
follow-up, updating and feeding;
Assisting with the design, development and dissemination of the promotional and
informational material of the I-act;
Managing correspondence with the venue partners when required, including screening
correspondence, drafting correspondence on routine matters and sending necessary
background information;
Performing basic translation tasks as required using the two languages (English and
Arabic);
Compiling and assembling a digital full contact database for Teatro Eskendria including
partner organizations locally, regionally and internationally as well as café visitors and
audience of Teatro Eskendria;
Establishing and managing a shared folder/internal folder between all Teatro team
members including updates and programmes information and updates;
Assisting the programme manager in the implementation of joint/binary projects
established between Teatro Eskendria/I-act and partner organisations;
Maintaining records, files and updates information relating to activities within the
Organization; &
Providing direct administrative and technical assistance to the prorgamme manager of the
venue and the director’s office.
Qualifications, experience and skills:
Resident in Alexandria
University degree (culture and/or arts related field is a preference)
1-2 years working experience in a related field.
Genuine interest in arts and awareness of the Egyptian cultural scene
Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of (MS Office and Adobe) and Internet literacy.
Language skills: Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and English (French
is an asset)
Flexible working hours with the ability to commit during weekends.
