ummer is just around the corner. Once again the
time has come when we place our Guyton’s and
Harrison’s and Nelson’s in the shelves, store our
uniforms in the cabinet, and bring out our best
summer outfits. The corridors of Roxas Hall are emptied and
the majestic shores and coastlines of Iloilo are crowded with
people of all ages and sizes.
But summer does not mean that we in the medical
profession truly leave out that part of our lives. In fact,
summer is an opportunity for us to reach out to the community
and give back to the people. Who said that summer and
service don’t go together?
To kick-off the summer activities of the Order of
Asclepius, our organization participated in Porma Balas 2015
on March 29, 2015 in front of Breakthrough Restaurant, Villa
Arevalo, Iloilo City. The Order of Asclepius participated in the
event through vital signs taking for both the participants and
the spectators in the day-long affair.
Porma Balas: the Iloilo Sandsculpting Competition is an
annual event which was started in 1995. It’s main purpose is to
make sand sculpture as an art and hobby among Ilonggos, to
make sand sculpting competition an annual summer activity
among Ilonggos, and environmental awareness specifically
for the protection of the local coastal areas.
The said event was sponsored by the Rotaract Club of
Iloilo City. Other partners from the WVSU-College of
Medicine are the Medicine Student Council (MSC) and the
Asian Medical Students Association (AMSA).#
