WVSU-COM HOLDS FRESHMEN ORIENTATION
few days before the start of
the new academic year, the
University – College of
Medicine held the Freshman Orientation
Program 2015 on July 3 at Room 202,
Roxas Hall, WVSU.
The event started off with the
doxology as well as singing of the national
anthem and college hymn by the
Medsymphony. Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz,
dean of the WVSU College of Medicine
welcomed the members of Class 2019 and
urged them to be united and that every
one of them to serve as ‘flashlights’ to their
fellow batchmates. This was followed by
the orientation to the university rules and
Dr. Suzanne Marie G. Carmona, a
pediatric resident and a proud graduate
of WVSU College of Medicine gave a
heart-warming message to the freshmen.
She inspired the freshmen to strive for their
dreams and become physicians who are
compassionate, hard-working and patientcentered.
Dr. Purisima B. Atas, associate dean
for academic affairs presented the faculty
of the college of medicine while Dr. Jose
Nemesio A. Granada presented the
administrative staff of the college.
recognition to the top 10 medical students
AY 2014-2015 was also part of the said
event. The top three students in every
batch in the Achievement Test for
AY 2014-2015 were also awarded.
Furthermore, special awards were also
given to the most outstanding medical
students for each batch. This includes the
UPCM PGH Alumni Foundation Book
Award for the Most Outstanding Freshman
and the WVSU-COM Alumni Achievement

Council for AY 2014-2015 were given
recognition for their work. On the other

were presented. Steven Carl Alayon,
member of the freshmen Class of 2019
gave the response in behalf of his
batchmates. Dr. Edna Atacador-Medez,
adviser of the Medicine Student Council
gave the closing remarks.
After the morning ceremony, the
freshmen were divided into small groups.
There, they got the chance to mingle with
their classmates and gain insights from
the testimonials and advices of some of
the upperclassmen who were part of the

included orientation from the college
Philippine Health Insurance
Student Council, Association of Philippine
Medical Colleges – Student Network
(APMC-SN), Boarding house Commission.
The freshmen were also oriented to the
different textbooks which will be used in
their first year in medical school.
The different organizations in the
college also had the opportunity to present
organizations seek to become an avenue
for the freshmen to not only share their
many talents and skills but also for them to
have a family during their stay in Roxas
Hall. These organizations include the
Association, Bisayang Doktor Organization
(Bisdoks), Campus Crusade for Christ,
Medsymphony, Order of Asclepius, Vital
Signs, and StatHealth.
This annual event is organized by the
Medicine Student Council in partnership
with the WVSU College of Medicine
faculty and staff as well as the different
COM organizations. #
