Shaping Leaders out

M
edicine involves a
lifelong
process
of learning. From
the moment we
decided to enter medical school,
we have made a personal
commitment to a life of endless
learning.
This
“learning,”
however, is not only limited to
memorizing, understanding and
constantly updating numerous
concepts
from
Schwartz,
Harrison’s, Nelson’s and Robbins’
but most importantly, learning
more about ourselves and how to
develop the necessary
attitudes
for growth and success.
The
Order
of
Asclepius
recognizes that need for learning
and thus holds annual leadership
training for its members. The
event
started off with
an
inspirational talk from our very
own, Dr. Michael Castaños of
Batch 25 who reminded us that
being Asclepians means more
than just existing but living life
to the fullest; constantly allowing
the Order to tap our potentials
within.
The talk highlighted the
necessary
strategies,
which
include
having
the
right
mindset and the right attitudes
for
success.
Dr.
Castaños
encouraged
the
resident
members to develop the values of
discipline and patience; and as
leaders, to forego the concept of
“I” and focus more on how we can
influence others. “Leadership starts
with you but it is not about you,” he
said.
Following the talk, various team
-building activities were done to
further strengthen the bond of
the resident members. The fun
night ended with a boodle fight
enjoyed by the resident members.
Indeed, Asclepians had their
minds, spirits and tummies full that
night.
The
day-long
leadership
training was attended by resident
members from Batch 36, Batch 37,
Batch 38, Batch 39, as well as Batch
25’s Dr. Michael Castaños and
Batch 30’s Dr. John Philip Dolorfino
which was held at Mandurriao,
Iloilo City. #
